Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia at End of 2024, Confirms Davide Brivio During Aragon MotoGP
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be parting ways with Trackhouse Aprilia at the conclusion of 2024, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the team principal of Trackhouse Aprilia, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team when it was originally known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team at its launch in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project following its second season with the Noale brand, which is also its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar before last Sunday’s Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who became a member of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very difficult” decision. He mentioned that this move is part of the American-owned team’s effort to explore “a new direction”.
Brivio mentioned that Zeelenberg's departure was a topic they had discussed and a decision they ultimately made together. He also gave significant praise to Wilco Zeelenberg for his contributions.
"To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he's developed over the years. Moreover, most of the team will remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for his efforts in building it."
"As Trackhouse, we believed that for the future, we needed to take a different approach. On one hand, it’s unfortunate, but on the other hand, it’s just part of the business."
"It's always challenging, and reaching this decision has been extremely tough."
The future plans for Zeelenberg remain uncertain at the moment. Once a victor in the 250cc Grand Prix, the Dutchman served as a team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team, taking on the role of team manager there.
