Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia at End of 2024, Confirms Davide Brivio
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia at the conclusion of the 2024 season, a statement made during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team when it was initially known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project after its second season with the Noale brand and its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar just before the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who became part of Trackhouse in early 2024, shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a "very difficult" decision. He mentioned that this move is part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore "a different direction".
Brivio mentioned that Zeelenberg's exit was a topic of discussion. He stated that they made this decision together and commended Wilco Zeelenberg for his contributions.
“Frankly, when I got here, I encountered a team that he had developed over the years. Most of this team will remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for what he has accomplished.”
"As Trackhouse, we felt that moving forward, we needed to explore a new direction. It's unfortunate in one way, but it's just business in another."
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this point. The Dutchman, who once clinched a victory in the 250cc Grand Prix, initially served as the team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales within the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
