Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia at End of 2024, Confirms Davide Brivio
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia after the 2024 season, with the confirmation made during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Davide Brivio, the team principal of Trackhouse Aprilia, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who initially joined the Trackhouse team when it was first established as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project after its second season with the Noale brand and its first under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar before last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who became part of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, mentioned that deciding on Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very difficult” decision. He added that this move is part of the American-owned team's efforts to explore “a new direction”.
"We talked about Zeelenberg leaving," Brivio stated. "We made this choice together. Wilco deserves a lot of praise for his contributions."
"To be honest, when I got here, I found a team that he had meticulously put together over the years. Most of the team members will remain the same next year, which is a testament to his efforts."
“As Trackhouse, we considered that for future progress, we might need to take a different path. On one hand, it’s disappointing, but on the other hand, it’s just business.”
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging."
The future plans for Zeelenberg are not yet clear. The Dutchman, who previously won a 250cc Grand Prix, served as team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team, also as a team manager.
