Wilco Zeelenberg to Exit Trackhouse Aprilia After 2024 Season, Confirms Davide Brivio
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will exit Trackhouse Aprilia when the 2024 season concludes. This confirmation came during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Davide Brivio, the team principal of Trackhouse Aprilia, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team when it was initially known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in its 2019 debut, is set to depart from the satellite Aprilia project following its second season with the Noale brand, and its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar prior to the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who became a part of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, revealed that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very difficult” decision to make. He mentioned that this move is part of the American-owned team's efforts to seek a “new direction”.
Brivio mentioned that Zeelenberg's departure was a topic of conversation and a mutual decision. He also praised Wilco Zeelenberg for his contributions.
"To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has developed over the years. Most of this team will stay the same next year, so he deserves a lot of praise for what he has accomplished."
"As Trackhouse, we believed that looking ahead, we needed to explore a new path. On one hand, it's unfortunate, but on the other hand, it's just business."
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been incredibly challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this time. The Dutchman, who previously won a 250cc Grand Prix, served as team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP garage. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team, taking on the role of team manager there.
