VR46 Team Confirms Franco Morbidelli’s Crew Chief for 2025 Season Amidst Promising Move
VR46 Team Manager Pablo Nieto announces the appointment of Franco Morbidelli's crew chief for the 2025 MotoGP season.
On Friday morning at the Austrian Grand Prix, it was formally announced that Franco Morbidelli would be transitioning from the Pramac team to join the VR46 Ducati team in 2025. Later that same day, the appointment of his new crew chief was also revealed.
Morbidelli is set to join VR46 following a single season riding for Pramac as a Ducati competitor, a tenure that began unfavorably with a winter accident. This incident sidelined Morbidelli, preventing him from participating in both preseason tests.
"Reflecting on past events, it's clear that this winter season was not favorable for him; he suffered from injuries in Portimao due to a motorcycle accident and missed the winter test," VR46 team manager Pablo Nieto explained to MotoGP.com.
"Thus, ultimately you're short by about 3,000km, and currently in MotoGP, skipping the winter tests nearly renders it unfeasible to achieve anything."
In 2025, Morbidelli will persist in riding a Desmosedici GP24, the identical model he’s currently piloting for Pramac. Nieto considers this consistency to be beneficial for Morbidelli.
"Nieto stated, 'He's going to stick with the current bike model for another year, which is crucial,' adding, 'and then keep up the same level of effort as he's doing currently. So, I believe we're set to achieve great results.'"
Nieto mentioned that the recent performance of Morbidelli has made him optimistic about the latest addition to his team.
"Nieto expressed optimism after Friday's practice at the Austrian Grand Prix, stating, "He appears to be doing an excellent job and is beginning to develop a strong connection with the bike. Observing him constantly competing for a top-three position today is significant."
In conclusion, Nieto announced that Morbidelli is set to take over the team that is presently collaborating with Marco Bezzecchi.
"Nieto mentioned, 'He's coming onboard alongside Matteo Flamigni and the entire team [currently collaborating with Bezzecchi].'”
