VR46 Ascends to Factory-Supported Glory with Ducati in MotoGP: Di Giannantonio and Morbidelli to Lead the Charge
Announcement: VR46 to receive 'factory support' from Ducati for MotoGP team | Team members announced
Fabio di Giannantonio will take on the upcoming season with VR46 aboard a factory-spec Ducati GP25, with Franco Morbidelli joining as his teammate on a GP24.
Ducati has announced that starting in 2025, VR46 will replace Pramac as its officially supported MotoGP team.
The long-term agreement ensures that Valentino Rossi's squad will have access to a genuine Desmosedici GP for racing, along with comprehensive technical and sporting assistance from the constructor based in Borgo Panigale.
While VR46 has not officially announced its rider lineup, Ducati team manager Davide Tardozzi revealed in interviews with television channels that Fabio di Giannantonio is set to be upgraded to the top-tier GP25 motorcycle next season. Furthermore, Franco Morbidelli will be transferring from Pramac to join him as a team-mate, riding a GP24. This move will fill the spot left by Marco Bezzecchi, who is set to join Aprilia.
This implies that newcomer Fermin Aldeguer will be paired with Alex Marquez at Gresini, finalizing Ducati's scaled-down roster of six riders.
"It fills me with immense pride to declare that starting next year, the VR46 Racing Team will receive factory support from Ducati in MotoGP," expressed Alessio Salucci, the director of the VR46 team.
"We are set to proceed with an authorized bicycle and a GP24. Had this been mentioned a few years back, I would have found it unbelievable."
"This marks an incredibly important milestone for the whole team: reaching this level of success in merely three years, alongside a youthful squad and numerous members who have been with us since Moto3, is absolutely remarkable."
"I am grateful to everyone involved in the Team, our associates, Ducati, and Gigi Dall'Igna for their faith in this initiative and for their efforts in elevating it to its deserved status today."
"The coming years are going to be tough and filled with obstacles, but we're eager to put ourselves to the test and aim for lofty goals."
Gigi Dall'Igna, the General Manager of Ducati Corse, remarked: "Since its inception, the VR46 Racing Team has demonstrated an exceptional capacity to collaborate seamlessly with Ducati, and over the past few years, we have accomplished significant milestones together.
"We are delighted to have the opportunity to strengthen our partnership by offering the team from Pesaro complete factory support beginning the upcoming season."
"I am confident that collectively, we can attain more noteworthy objectives! I want to express my gratitude once more to Valentino, Uccio, Pablo, and everyone involved with the team for their intense passion and commitment."
Pramac, the team for which Jorge Martin currently competes and is once more vying for the championship against Ducati's leading racer Francesco Bagnaia, will transition to using Yamaha equipment in the upcoming season. At that time, Martin is set to join Aprilia.
