Vinales Calls Out Aprilia’s Braking Woes as Gap to MotoGP Leaders Widens: Urgent Improvements Needed
Maverick Vinales Highlights Major Shortcoming in Aprilia | Disparity with Front-Runners Deemed "Unacceptable"
"Being this far behind the other competitors in the race is not acceptable," states Massimo Rivola
Maverick Vinales pointed out that the Austrian MotoGP underscored the need for Aprilia to address braking problems, following his challenging race to a far-off seventh place, which he deemed an "unacceptable" gap from his competitors.
The Red Bull Ring stands as a challenging track for Aprilia, given its abrupt halt-and-accelerate design doesn't play to the strengths of the RS-GP, which excels in fast curves.
Continuing their recent trend, Aprilia demonstrated impressive performance in the sprint race, with Aleix Espargaro securing third place following Marc Marquez's late crash from second position.
In the grand prix, Vinales finished 24.322 seconds after the race victor Francesco Bagnaia, securing seventh place, while Espargaro dropped to ninth near the end, overtaken by Franco Morbidelli.
Following concerns raised during the British Grand Prix, especially regarding tyre wear, Vinales has pinpointed braking as a crucial aspect for Aprilia to focus on for improvement.
"He stated that they are grasping their requirements."
"Essentially, it's halted. My perception and understanding suggest that we're not effectively applying pressure on the front tire."
"Thus, we are not extracting the peak performance from the front tire."
"There's a certain discomfort that comes, particularly during the race as temperatures rise and the pressure mounts. Therefore, it will be crucial to address this issue in Aragon."
He further stated, “This race was more about defense. I did my best to maximize performance. Specifically, at this track, braking is a challenge for me.
Halting the bicycle proved to be a challenge. Frankly, I believe it turned out well, and I managed to secure some valuable points regardless.
"In certain aspects, the bike demonstrated impressive performance, yet we acknowledge areas such as braking that require enhancement."
Aprilia's CEO, Massimo Rivola, mentioned that the team gathered crucial data for analysis during their time in Austria, yet he expressed strong criticism over the significant disparity with their competitors.
"He reiterated their ability to be formidable contenders in both the qualifying rounds and the sprint race."
"Regrettably, as the race progresses and the miles accumulate, tire wear becomes a factor, causing a decline in our competitive edge."
"We were aware that this track wasn't the most advantageous for our motorcycle, yet we also faced some extreme temperature problems."
"We definitely gathered crucial information for analysis to enhance our performance. Our only option is to persist in our efforts, as lagging so far behind the competition is intolerable."
