Valtteri Bottas Confident of Securing 2025 F1 Seat Amid Doubters: ‘I’m Not Finished Yet
EXCLUSIVE: Valtteri Bottas responds to skeptics recalling their 'quick forgetfulness'
Valtteri Bottas is optimistic about clinching a spot for the 2025 Formula One season, even as his opportunities seem to be diminishing.
Valtteri Bottas is determined to keep his Formula 1 career alive, actively looking for a team to join in 2025, he revealed in a special discussion with Lewis Larkam from Crash.net in Austria.
The Finnish racer is among various competitors whose contracts expire next season, and he, alongside his colleague Zhou Guanyu, is at risk of losing his spot since Sauber has brought on Nico Hulkenberg from Haas.
Despite the rapid filling up of seats, Bottas holds onto his belief that he will maintain his position on the F1 grid next year. Speaking to Crash.net before this weekend's Austrian Grand Prix, he mentioned that he still sees “three options” for himself.
"He mentioned that there are still chances available. In his opinion, there are likely more than just two options at present, possibly three. He confirmed that one option is definitely on the table.
"We're still in discussion here. We just require a little more time. There are choices available, which is positive, and I have my own set of priorities too."
While he remained vague about the specific teams in question, it's probable that he was hinting at Williams and Alpine, alongside his present team, Sauber.
Bottas indicated that his decision hinges on Carlos Sainz, the departing Ferrari racer, who is reportedly considering proposals from Williams, Alpine, and Sauber.
When questioned about his comfort level with potentially not securing a racing seat for 2025, Bottas responded, “I don’t feel like I’m done with the sport yet. That’s how I feel.
"I certainly have more time ahead and plenty to contribute to the sport and whichever team I'm part of. That's how I feel. I'm not prepared to stop yet."
From a statistical standpoint, Bottas emerges as the most appealing option among available drivers, boasting the highest number of wins and pole positions. However, despite his achievements, the 34-year-old has yet to secure a position.
"Regarding the current availability of drivers on the market, yes, absolutely, that’s the reality," he acknowledged when presented with those figures. "So, I'm optimistic that this will work in my favor.
"In this game, memories can be fleeting, but those who are aware of my capabilities understand what I'm capable of. That's the key aspect I need to have faith in – acknowledging that will take care of everything for me."
"Sporting events are more than just the raw display of athleticism; they encompass other factors. Your country of origin, whether or not you have sponsorship deals, among other aspects, play a role. That's just how it works. Equity isn't always a given."
