Valentino Rossi Praises Pecco Bagnaia’s Perfect Balance of Aggression in MotoGP Title Showdown
Valentino Rossi praises Pecco Bagnaia for being "assertive without being unsportsmanlike"
Valentino Rossi analyzes the battle for the MotoGP championship
Valentino Rossi provided an analysis of Pecco Bagnaia's flawless performance during the Austrian MotoGP weekend.
The current MotoGP titleholder, who is also a product of the VR46 Academy, triumphed in both the Saturday sprint race and Sunday's grand prix, securing a five-point advantage over Jorge Martin.
Martin, who faced a lengthy lap penalty on Saturday, secured second place in both races.
"Rossi spoke to Sky Italia about Bagnaia's recent performance, highlighting his strong start and impressive form from the very first practice this weekend."
"Martin is present, yet during these weekends, [Bagnaia] seems to possess an extra edge."
"He's remarkably silent, possesses excellent driving skills, and is exceptionally speedy. His skills have significantly progressed in all areas, currently presenting no weaknesses."
"He completes the circuit, consistently getting off to a strong start, a critical element, something that champions such as Verstappen, for instance, excel at.
"Initiating things smoothly isn't always straightforward; occasionally, someone falters. Yet, he consistently shows up and does so with remarkable speed."
Rossi maintains that Bagnaia, a champion twice over, excels under challenging conditions, describing his approach as assertive but not unsportsmanlike.
"Indeed, recently, when faced with stress, he's been going above and beyond, managing to tap into that additional effort," he commented.
In my view, Bagnaia's advantage lies in his approach: he's forceful yet maintains fairness, he's precise without being overly gentle.
"He possesses the perfect blend of audacity and aggression, skillfully handling the Ducati's oversteer during braking, while also showcasing remarkable consistency and precision. His error-free performance now makes him a formidable opponent."
Rossi cautioned Ducati's official team member Bagnaia that Pramac's Martin might challenge for the championship up to the last day, similar to his performance the previous year.
"Rossi mentioned that there's a high chance they will make it to the finish."
"The situation hinges on the current momentum. Presently, we find ourselves caught up in the wave created by Bagnaia, who has significantly closed the gap in points in the recent races. It's important to remember that although he was previously trailing by perhaps 40 points, he was at the forefront and now he's caught up."
"Now, we must watch every weekend, as Martin is an exceptionally quick racer, rarely erring, and also holds the record for the quickest lap. His starts are strong, which are key factors in MotoGP currently, ensuring a tight competition all the way to the finish."
Is it preferable to pursue or to be pursued?
"Rossi believes Pecco was performing well before the break since he had overtaken him."
"Despite his wishes to stay with Ducati, Martin will have to switch teams next year, leaving him feeling let down as he had hoped to remain with the red team."
Upon his return from vacation, he immediately got back into action and succeeded in regaining points from him.
"Now, in my view, they're on the same level. Observing from the outside, it's evident that both are performing slightly better at the moment; it's clear just by looking."
