Unwavering Leadership: Simon Crafar Takes Helm as MotoGP Stewards Brace for Transformative Era
Simon Crafar remains resolute as changes loom for MotoGP stewards
"His knowledge, his impartiality, he is unaffected by external influences – he is the ideal candidate"
Simon Crafar has received strong support after being announced as the new chairman of Race Direction.
Crafar, who used to be a racer and is currently a MotoGP commentator, will take on an important new position next year, succeeding Freddie Spencer.
MotoGP racers have already embraced him in a role that holds authority over the implementation of the regulations.
Neil Hodgson remarked to TNT Sports that Simon is an ideal individual because of his experience, his sense of fairness, and his resistance to being influenced by others.
“Supervision will be guided very effectively.”
Sylvain Guintoli responded by saying, "Simon is the ideal candidate because of his transparency and consistency."
"It's a challenging job. Achieving consistency is nearly impossible. There will always be criticism. It's a very demanding role. However, Simon is capable of handling it."
"He’s knowledgeable in racing, which gives us many reasons to believe he’s the ideal candidate for the position."
"This signing is intriguing for the future of the championship. Ensuring that rules are enforced is crucial. Without proper enforcement, the championship's credibility suffers, which is detrimental to the audience."
"We desire uniformity and equity, and for the boys to compete on the track."
"They need to understand their limits and capabilities."
Hodgson commented, "He truly cares. His dedication to our sport is immense, and ensuring safety is his top priority."
MotoGP champion Pecco Bagnaia has issued a cautionary statement, saying: “It’s a challenging task,” and added, “It’s among the toughest roles in the paddock because making decisions is difficult. However, I believe that with Simon, we can have constructive discussions.”
Jorge Martin mentioned that he is quite familiar with Simon and is aware that Simon is still actively riding.
"He will gain a clearer insight into how the bike operates and how quickly situations can shift."
Marc Marquez also extended a welcome to Crafar, noting, "It's similar to a football referee; you can't please everyone."
