Trackhouse’s Strategic Moves: Ogura Emerges as Surprise Contender Amidst Joe Roberts Negotiation Drama
"Speculation on Political Factors Influencing Trackhouse’s Major Rider Selection
Is there a possibility that Joe Roberts could once again become the top candidate for Trackhouse?"
It has been speculated that Trackhouse might be in talks with other racers to leverage negotiations for signing Joe Roberts.
Moto2 sensation Ai Ogura has surprisingly become the leading candidate for the Trackhouse MotoGP position in 2025, just before the British Grand Prix.
Crash.net inquired of Ogura at Silverstone, to which he responded with a grin: "All I can say for now is to wait for the announcement! There's nothing more I can share at this moment."
"If I move up to MotoGP, I have two choices."
The decision to select Ogura comes as a shock, given that his Moto2 competitor, Roberts, had been widely expected to secure the Trackhouse ride.
This year, Trackhouse has undergone a rebranding, making them the sole MotoGP team with American support. Additionally, Roberts has the potential to be the only American competitor in the top-tier racing category.
Neil Hodgson expressed to TNT Sports that he would be extremely surprised if Ogura was selected instead of Roberts.
“If they were seeking a seasoned rider and since Miguel Oliveira was leaving, they should consider Jack Miller as he appears to be without a team.”
"He has extensive experience and has ridden both the Ducati and the KTM, which could benefit the project. To me, that seems logical."
"However, considering Ogura is a rookie—though we highly regard him as exceptionally talented—the American team, aiming to expand the sport in the U.S. with Liberty Media, seems to have an ideal candidate in Roberts."
"He has exceptional talent. Although it has taken him more time to reach his current level, that's just how it goes for some riders!"
Sylvain Guintoli speculated that Trackhouse might be using their interest in Ogura to accelerate negotiations for their main target, Roberts.
"The conversations have a political aspect, even for Trackhouse," Guintoli mentioned.
"If there's a clear option, the team doesn't need additional help to recruit the rider."
“If the team is seriously thinking about another rider, perhaps they can use different tactics to bring Roberts onto the team. That might be the objective.”
Raul Fernandez has inked a fresh deal to remain part of Aprilia's satellite team.
The future of Oliveira is still unclear, even though team manager Davide Brivio emphasized that his main goal was to persuade his most seasoned rider to remain with the team.
Oliveira has been associated with Pramac Yamaha, presenting Trackhouse with an option for filling their open bike position.
