Trackhouse Racing’s Surprising Moto2 Pick: Ai Ogura Set for 2025 MotoGP Line-Up Over Joe Roberts
Trackhouse Racing is reportedly nearing a surprising decision for their 2025 MotoGP roster, involving an unexpected talent from the Moto2 circuit.
Trackhouse Racing plans to finalize their 2025 MotoGP team by adding a newcomer from Moto2.
According to Motorsport.com, Ai Ogura, not Joe Roberts, is expected to secure the position as Raul Fernandez's teammate after Fernandez renewed his contract on Tuesday.
While a formal agreement has not been completed, the report indicates that Ogura has verbally committed to the American team.
Roberts, similar to Ogura in being a title contender in Moto2, was anticipated to be the preferred rookie if Trackhouse had decided to opt for Moto2.
Following multiple discussions with the rider from California, Trackhouse seems poised to pass up the opportunity to have an American on their team.
The other competitor, Jack Miller, may leave MotoGP if he is unable to land a spot with Pramac Yamaha.
The most unexpected aspect of Ogura signing with Trackhouse is that he was previously included in Honda's future strategies.
Ogura was anticipated to follow in Takaaki Nakagami's footsteps at LCR, but as Trackhouse is poised to sign Ogura, Nakagami is now likely to remain in his current position.
Honda considered having Ogura ride for them on two occasions, in 2023 and once more in 2024. Despite these opportunities, the young Japanese racer declined because he felt the bike was not competitive enough and he aspired to advance as the Moto2 champion.
Ogura will become the third fresh addition to Aprilia following the signings of Jorge Martin and Marco Bezzecchi to the official Aprilia Racing team.
