Trackhouse Racing Secures Moto2 Star Ai Ogura for 2025 Season: Justin Marks Highlights Key Decision Factors
Trackhouse MotoGP leader uncovers crucial elements in Ai Ogura's recruitment
Justin Marks explains the rationale for hiring Ai Ogura
An excited Justin Marks, the proprietor of Trackhouse Racing, has shared the reasons behind the American MotoGP team's decision to bring Ai Ogura on board for the 2025 season.
Before the Austrian Grand Prix last weekend, Trackhouse revealed they had inked a two-year agreement with Moto2 championship hopeful Ogura to join the Aprilia satellite team.
In recent weeks, Ogura emerged as a surprising candidate for the position, defying the widespread expectation that he would likely initiate his MotoGP career with LCR Honda upon deciding to advance.
The Japanese rider is set to fill the spot left by Miguel Oliveira, who is moving to Pramac, and will team up with Raul Fernandez, forming a relatively youthful duo at Aprilia.
Discussing the choice, Marks mentioned that choosing Fernandez's colleague took considerable time, but various aspects made Ogura stand out.
"He's an exciting addition to our team," he expressed.
"The decision-making process regarding our future rider roster was quite extensive."
"Working with Raul was quite straightforward; he's making significant progress, getting to know the bike better, and collaborating effectively with the team."
"Moving on to our next participant, various elements were considered in making this choice. We explored numerous possibilities and were genuinely impressed by Ai's skill, commitment, his impressive pace this season, and his concentration."
"Looking at it from a commercial perspective, it's beneficial to have a competitor from Asia and another from Europe."
"In summary, it fulfilled many of our criteria, and collectively, we're quite optimistic and enthusiastic about the prospects and future that Ogura offers."
Despite Oliveira's departure at the year's close, Marks emphasizes that the expertise of the five-time Grand Prix victor will remain crucial to Aprilia's motorcycle enhancements throughout the season's remainder.
"With all the mid-season transfers happening, it makes you wonder about the landscape for the upcoming year and the hurdles it might bring," he further stated.
"However, the racing season has a long way to go. There's much to discover about the Aprilia motorcycles, and plenty of battles yet to be won."
"Miguel possesses remarkable skill, is a favored cyclist, and has a track record of success and expertise in the field."
"Clearly, there's a significant amount of knowledge we can gain this year from him. He possesses an incredible speed and has already secured a podium position in a sprint race this season."
"There remains a significant amount of competition ahead, and we're committed to a strong collaboration with Aprilia to advance the development of the motorcycle alongside the Aprilia factory team. Oliveira plays a key role in this effort, emphasizing the substantial goals we have yet to achieve."
