Trackhouse Racing Prioritizes Global Outreach Over National Talent for 2025 MotoGP Line-Up
Trackhouse clarifies decision to bypass Joe Roberts for the 2025 MotoGP slot
"Our priority is to connect with a wide variety of cultures"
Trackhouse Racing's proprietor, Justin Marks, has clarified the reasons behind the decision not to consider Joe Roberts for a MotoGP position in 2025 with the Aprilia satellite team.
The entry of the American squad into the top tier sparked widespread anticipation that Moto2 standout Roberts would secure one of the Aprilias for the 2025 season.
Trackhouse, having engaged in talks with Roberts about a contract for 2025, has chosen to extend its agreement with Spanish racer Raul Fernandez and also confirmed a two-year contract with Japanese driver Ai Ogura.
Questions have emerged regarding why a US team would not aim to support a prominent American rider, especially since double Moto2 race victor Roberts is just 32 points behind the leader in third place in the championship standings.
Marks has emphasized the critical importance of growing his business internationally and expressed a desire to support grassroots motorcycle racing in the US as a component of a strategic long-term vision.
"When TNT Sport inquired why Trackhouse hadn't signed Roberts, he responded, 'Why not anyone?'"
"Everyone has their own narrative, and I'm really into Joe's. I admire him; I'm a huge admirer of his skill."
"I believe the key aspect is our grand vision and overarching strategy as a company, with Trackhouse Racing MotoGP representing the global outreach of the Trackhouse brand."
"For us, it's crucial to make an effort to connect with a wide range of cultures and represent diverse regions from around the globe."
"I believe that, in the future, there's certainly a chance for an American to be riding our motorcycles."
"As a corporation, we're interested in investing in the United States at the grassroots level of motorcycle racing. Our goal is to create a significant impact that encourages the influx of younger talents into the sport of motorcycle racing."
"Currently, in 2024 and moving into 2025, the motorcycle racing team embodies a global outreach effort for our corporation, which was crucial to our objectives."
For the 2025 MotoGP season, every spot has been confirmed or reserved for other competitors, leaving Roberts to spend an additional year in Moto2.
He's not the sole prominent figure in Moto2 facing exclusion, as the current frontrunner in the championship, Sergio Garcia, also sees his advancement opportunities closed off.
