Trackhouse Racing Explains Decision to Overlook Joe Roberts for 2025 MotoGP Ride: Emphasizes Global Vision and Cultural Diversity
Trackhouse clarifies decision to pass on Joe Roberts for 2025 MotoGP spot
"We prioritize engaging with a diverse range of cultures"
Trackhouse Racing's owner, Justin Marks, has provided an explanation for why Joe Roberts was not chosen by the Aprilia satellite team for a MotoGP spot in 2025.
The entry of the American team into the top-tier category raised high hopes that Moto2 standout Roberts would secure one of those Aprilia bikes for the 2025 season.
Trackhouse reportedly engaged in negotiations with Roberts regarding a contract for 2025. However, the team decided to renew its agreement with Spanish racer Raul Fernandez and signed a two-year contract with Japanese rider Ai Ogura.
This situation has sparked inquiries about why an American team would not prioritize a talented rider from the US, especially considering that Roberts, who has won two Moto2 races, is currently just 32 points behind the championship leader in third place.
Marks emphasizes that growing his business outside the United States has been "extremely crucial" for them. He also expresses interest in supporting grassroots motorcycle racing in the U.S. as a component of a long-term strategy.
When questioned by TNT Sport about Trackhouse's decision not to bring Roberts on board, he responded, "Why not anyone?"
"Everyone has their own story, and I really admire Joe. I appreciate Joe's abilities and am a huge supporter of his work."
"The crucial aspect is that our company possesses a grand vision and an extensive strategy. Trackhouse Racing MotoGP represents the global growth of the Trackhouse brand."
"It’s crucial for us to connect with a diverse range of cultures and to represent various regions across the globe."
"I believe that eventually, there will be a chance for an American to ride our bikes."
The company aims to invest in the grassroots of motorcycle racing in America, with the goal of nurturing young talent and encouraging their entry into the sport.
"However, in the years 2024 and 2025, this motorcycle racing team signifies a crucial step in the company's global growth, which was essential for our objectives."
As all the positions on the 2025 MotoGP lineup are either officially filled or reserved for other riders, Roberts is set to spend another year competing in Moto2.
However, Sergio Garcia, the current leader in the Moto2 championship, is also among the prominent names who will not be moving up, as his opportunities for advancement have been closed off.
