Trackhouse Racing Bets Big on Ai Ogura: The Next MotoGP Star?
Davide Brivio: Reasons Ai Ogura “could excel as a MotoGP rider”
"… we believe Ai has the capability to excel as a MotoGP rider."
Davide Brivio mentioned that Ai Ogura's 'riding style' and 'ability to persevere during races' were key reasons why Trackhouse selected him for MotoGP in 2025.
Japanese racer, who has secured five Moto2 victories and is currently second in the world championship standings, was chosen for the final RS-GP spot despite strong competition from his teammate and championship leader Sergio Garcia, as well as Joe Roberts.
Veteran MotoGP racers like Jack Miller remain available for contracts.
Davide Brivio, who was responsible for launching the MotoGP careers of Alex Rins and Maverick Vinales during his tenure managing the factory Suzuki team, commented:
“We are thrilled to announce that we have finalized a new project with Ai, one of the most skilled riders in Moto2.”
"We admire his way of riding, his determination in races, and we believe Ai has the ability to become an excellent MotoGP competitor."
"We intend to build up the Trackhouse Team as a MotoGP initiative, and at the same time, we will provide Ai with the resources needed to showcase his abilities and reach his full potential."
"In my opinion, with Raul as a youthful yet seasoned rider and Ai as an emerging talent, Trackhouse has established a solid roster of riders for the coming years."
"We're looking forward to an exciting future, but right now, our main focus is on our current championships and achieving the best results possible before embarking on our new journey together."
Team owner Justin Marks mentioned that Ogura, who has committed to a two-year contract, is 'prepared' for MotoGP.
"We are thrilled to bring onboard Ai Ogura, a young and highly promising talent," said Marks. "He has shown his dedication and readiness for success in Moto2, and now he is prepared to advance to the MotoGP class."
“We’re excited to collaborate with him and assist him as he gets accustomed to the Aprilia motorcycle and faces the fierce competition in the elite tier of global motorcycle racing.”
Several people were surprised that Trackhouse did not choose Joe Roberts, a nearby racer who ranks just one position behind Ogura in the Moto2 standings. However, Marks emphasized the team's global perspective.
"Trackhouse Racing MotoGP was established to act as the worldwide growth effort for the Trackhouse brand."
"It's incredibly thrilling to see that our team lineup now includes athletes from Mexico, the USA, Spain, New Zealand, and Japan."
Ogura, along with Trackhouse's current rider Raul Fernandez, will both be equipped with the newest 2025 factory-spec RS-GPs for the next season.
