Trackhouse Aprilia Confirms Wilco Zeelenberg’s Departure at End of 2024: Team Principal Davide Brivio Cites Strategic Shift
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will part ways with Trackhouse Aprilia after the conclusion of the 2024 season, as confirmed at the Aragon MotoGP.
The head of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, Davide Brivio, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg is set to depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who started with the Trackhouse team when it was initially known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project after its second season with the Noale brand, which is the first season under the Trackhouse name.
Last Sunday at MotorLand, during an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar before the Aragon MotoGP race, Brivio, who became part of Trackhouse in early 2024, shared that Zeelenberg’s exit was a “very hard” decision. He added that this move is part of the American-owned team’s efforts to seek “some different direction”.
Brivio mentioned, "We talked about Zeelenberg leaving and decided together. Wilco deserves a lot of recognition for his contributions."
"To be frank, when I got here, I encountered a team that he had developed over the years. This team, for the most part, will remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for what he has established."
"As Trackhouse, we believed that for the future, we needed to take a different path. It’s unfortunate in one sense, but it’s just business in another.
"It's never easy, and reaching this decision has been exceptionally challenging."
The future of Zeelenberg remains uncertain at this time. The Dutchman, who previously won a 250cc Grand Prix, served as a team manager for both Jorge Lorenzo and Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP team. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
