Trackhouse Aprilia Confirms Departure of Longtime Team Manager Wilco Zeelenberg at End of 2024 Season
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from Trackhouse Aprilia at the conclusion of the 2024 season, with the confirmation coming during the Aragon MotoGP event.
Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who initially joined the Trackhouse team when it first appeared as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team in 2019, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project after its second season with the Noale brand, and its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar before the Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand last Sunday, Brivio, who became a part of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, discussed the difficulty of Zeelenberg’s exit, calling it a "very hard" decision. He mentioned that this move is part of the team’s efforts, owned by Americans, to explore “some different direction”.
"We talked about Zeelenberg leaving," Brivio stated. "We made this choice together. Wilco deserves a lot of praise for his contributions."
"To be frank, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has developed over the years. Furthermore, most of this team will remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for his efforts."
"As Trackhouse, we believed that moving forward, we needed to explore a new path. It's unfortunate in some ways, but it's also just business."
"Reaching this decision has been challenging and the situation has been tough throughout."
The future plans for Zeelenberg remain uncertain at this time. This Dutchman, who once clinched a victory in the 250cc Grand Prix, managed the factory Yamaha MotoGP team for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales. In 2019, he transitioned to the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
