Trackhouse Aprilia Announces Wilco Zeelenberg’s Departure at End of 2024, Confirms Davide Brivio
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will be exiting Trackhouse Aprilia following the conclusion of the 2024 season, as confirmed during the Aragon MotoGP.
Last weekend, Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will depart from the team when the 2024 season concludes.
Zeelenberg, who initially joined the Trackhouse team when it was first known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team during its 2019 debut, will depart from the satellite Aprilia project following its second season with the Noale brand and its first season under the Trackhouse name.
During an interview with Simon Crafar from MotoGP.com in the pit lane before last Sunday's Aragon MotoGP race at MotorLand, Brivio, who started with Trackhouse at the start of 2024, described Zeelenberg's exit as a "very difficult" decision. He mentioned that this move is part of the American-owned team's effort to pursue "a new direction".
Brivio stated, "We talked about Zeelenberg leaving and made this decision together. Wilco deserves a lot of recognition for his contributions."
"To be frank, when I got here, I encountered a team that he has developed over the years. Most of the team will remain the same next year, so he deserves a lot of recognition for what he has put together."
"As Trackhouse, we considered that moving forward, we needed to explore a new path. On one hand, it's unfortunate, but on the other hand, it's a business decision."
“It’s never easy, and reaching this decision has been extremely challenging.”
The future plans of Zeelenberg remain uncertain at this time. The Dutchman, who previously clinched a victory in the 250cc Grand Prix, served as the team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in Yamaha's MotoGP factory team. In 2019, he took on the role of team manager for the Petronas SRT team.
