Trackhouse Aprilia Aims for Strong Comeback in Austria Following Silverstone Setback
Trackhouse looks forward to a fresh start in Austria following the Silverstone debacle
"After the incident at the British Grand Prix, we are eager to return to racing and start afresh."
The debut weekend for Trackhouse Aprilia, featuring both of its racers on the 2024 Aprilia RS-GP bikes, concluded in catastrophe at Silverstone after Raul Fernandez crashed in the initial lap, causing his out-of-control motorcycle to collide with his teammate, Miguel Oliveira.
The conclusion of the MotoGP race was disappointing, especially as it marked the first time the riders introduced Aprilia's newest aerodynamic enhancement. This update was engineered to improve stability when the bike is leaning, aiming to provide a better performance for both the team and its riders.
"Team principal Davide Brivio expressed eagerness to return to racing and make a comeback following the events at the British Grand Prix, as the team prepares for the upcoming race in Austria this weekend."
"Miguel has consistently performed well at the Red Bull Ring, and we certainly plan to leverage his expertise and skill at this track to gain an advantage.
"For Raul, transitioning to the 2024 motorcycle, a process he managed successfully at Silverstone, remains an ongoing task. Therefore, our goal in Austria is to have a solid weekend and make progress toward a successful latter half of the season."
Oliveira secured a historic win for both himself and the Tech3 team by triumphing in the final corner battle at the 2020 Red Bull 'Styrian' MotoGP event.
"Oliveira expressed that following the event at Silverstone, there was a general consensus that the bike performed better in Sunday's race compared to its showing in the Sprint race [where he finished 10th]. This led to an optimistic outlook for achieving a strong result in Sunday's competition."
"Despite the outcome of the previous race, I'm genuinely excited about heading to Austria since it's a circuit I truly enjoy. I clinched my inaugural MotoGP victory at the Red Bull Ring, so my aim is to kick off the weekend positively and progress from that point onwards."
Oliveira's future in the 2025 MotoGP season remains uncertain, with speculation suggesting a move to Pramac Yamaha, whereas Fernandez appears poised to continue as the sole Aprilia competitor riding an RS-GP, following the confirmation of his new contract with Trackhouse during the summer hiatus.
The youthful Spanish rider kicks off the latter half of the season trailing Oliveira by just five points in the global championship standings.
"Fernandez expressed excitement about moving forward after Silverstone, mentioning that the previous experience there was somewhat unsatisfactory for the team."
"In any case, the Red Bull Ring suits us quite well because my strengths lie in handling intense braking zones, and this track features plenty of those, so perhaps this could work to our advantage."
"Simultaneously, it's important for me to acknowledge that historically, my performance in MotoGP hasn't reached its peak. However, we must persist in our efforts with the new motorcycle to gain a deeper understanding of its capabilities."
"We're considering a couple of different strategies to test out, so we're heading to Austria with practical aspirations. My goal is to focus on making progress, to better grasp the direction we should take with the motorcycle."
