Trackhouse Aprilia Aims for Comeback in Austria After Silverstone Setback
Trackhouse keen to recover in Austria following Silverstone debacle
"We're excited to return to racing and recover from the setbacks experienced at the British Grand Prix"
The debut weekend for Trackhouse Aprilia, with both of its racers on the 2024 Aprilia RS-GP bikes, concluded tragically at Silverstone. The incident began when Raul Fernandez crashed on the initial lap, causing his out-of-control bike to collide with his team-mate Miguel Oliveira.
The conclusion of the MotoGP race proved to be a disappointing one, which was marked by the first-time appearance of Aprilia's newest aerodynamic enhancement. This update, intended to provide better stability through increased ground-effect when the bike is leaning, was showcased by both riders alongside the official team.
"Team leader Davide Brivio expressed eagerness to return to the track and recover from the events at the British Grand Prix, looking forward to the upcoming race in Austria this weekend."
"Miguel has consistently performed well at the Red Bull Ring, and we plan to leverage his expertise and skill at this track to gain an advantage.
"For Raul, transitioning to the 2024 motorcycle, a process he managed successfully at Silverstone, is part of his ongoing work. Thus, our goal in Austria is to ensure a solid weekend performance and make progress toward a promising latter half of the season."
Oliveira secured a landmark win for both himself and the Tech3 team in a thrilling final corner battle at the 2020 Red Bull 'Styrian' MotoGP event.
"Oliveira mentioned that following the Silverstone race, there was a general consensus that their bike performed better on Sunday compared to its performance in the Sprint race [where it finished 10th]. This led them to maintain an optimistic outlook for potentially achieving a favorable outcome in Sunday's race."
"Despite the outcome of the previous race, I'm genuinely excited about the upcoming race in Austria because it's a circuit I truly enjoy. It's where I clinched my first victory in MotoGP at the Red Bull Ring, so I'm aiming to kick off the weekend on a positive note and progress from there."
Oliveira's future in MotoGP for the 2025 season remains undecided, though there are rumors he might move to Pramac Yamaha. Meanwhile, Fernandez is expected to be the sole Aprilia contender to continue racing on an RS-GP, following the revelation of his new agreement with Trackhouse during the summer hiatus.
The youthful Spanish racer kicks off the latter half of the season trailing Oliveira by a mere five points in the global championship standings.
"Fernandez expressed eagerness to bounce back into action following the Silverstone race, acknowledging it was somewhat disheartening for the team."
"In any case, the Red Bull Ring suits us quite well since I excel at hard braking points, and this track features plenty of them, which might give us an advantage."
"Simultaneously, it's important for me to acknowledge that historically, my performance in MotoGP hasn't quite reached its peak yet. However, we must persist in our efforts with the new motorcycle to gain a deeper comprehension of its capabilities."
"We're considering a couple of different strategies to test out, so we're arriving in Austria with a grounded sense of optimism. My focus is on putting in the effort to enhance our performance and figuring out the best direction to take with the motorcycle."
