Top MotoGP Riders Rally Behind Simon Crafar’s Appointment to Lead Race Direction for 2025 Season
The leading trio in the MotoGP championship have expressed their support for Simon Crafar taking the helm of Race Direction, heralding it as a significant improvement.
Simon Crafar is set to become the new chairman of Race Direction starting with the 2025 MotoGP season.
Taking over from Freddie Spencer, who faced significant criticism from numerous riders, Crafar steps into a role that many might consider insurmountable.
However, the rider from New Zealand is backed by the top names in MotoGP.
Francesco Bagnaia, the current leader of the world championship, expressed, "In my opinion, it ranks among the most challenging roles within the paddock, given the complexity of making decisions. However, I believe that engaging in meaningful conversations with Simon is possible."
Every weekend, Simon and I have lengthy discussions, and I believe if he can maintain consistency, it would indeed be an excellent job. However, achieving this is no simple task.
Jorge Martin supported Crafar's selection, appreciating the ex-racer's eagerness to converse with the riders and absorb as much information as possible about the modern motorcycles.
"Starting off, Martin expressed, "It's a significant transition for me. It's a major shift. I'm quite familiar with Simon and I'm aware that he continues to cycle.
He'll grasp more clearly the mechanics of the bike's movement or how transformations occur so swiftly.
"I believe he could show more consistency across various scenarios."
"He is consistently striving to grasp the sport, seeking to learn from us and posing questions. He's going to excel in his new role."
Marc Marquez compares the role of the head of Race Direction to that of a referee in football, emphasizing the challenges and scrutiny the position faces. He expressed his support for Simon Crafar, saying, "I wish Simon the best. It's a tough job."
It's akin to the role of an umpire in Soccer, where pleasing everyone is an unattainable goal.
Ultimately, he's in charge of the race direction, and we must adjust to any new regulations or boundaries introduced.
"This time around, things are shifting somewhat and I'm at ease. I believe this is the correct direction."
