Title: “Trackhouse Aprilia Confirms Wilco Zeelenberg’s Departure at End of 2024 Season: Davide Brivio Seeks New Direction for Team
Davide Brivio has announced that Wilco Zeelenberg will exit Trackhouse Aprilia when 2024 concludes, with the confirmation made during the Aragon MotoGP.
Davide Brivio, the principal of the Trackhouse Aprilia team, announced last weekend that Wilco Zeelenberg will be departing from the team following the conclusion of the 2024 season.
Zeelenberg, who joined the Trackhouse team back when it was first known as the Petronas SRT Yamaha team during its 2019 debut, will be departing from the satellite Aprilia project following its second season with the Noale brand and its first season under the Trackhouse name.
In an interview with MotoGP.com pit lane reporter Simon Crafar prior to the MotoGP race at MotorLand in Aragon last Sunday, Brivio, who became a member of Trackhouse at the start of 2024, described Zeelenberg’s exit as a “very difficult” decision. He noted that this move is part of the American-owned team’s effort to explore “a new direction.”
"We had a conversation about Zeelenberg leaving," Brivio mentioned. "We made this choice together. Wilco deserves a lot of recognition for his contributions."
"To be truthful, when I got here, I discovered a team that he has developed over time. Most of this team will remain the same next year, so he deserves significant recognition for his efforts."
"As Trackhouse, we considered that for the future, we might need to explore a new path. It's unfortunate in some ways, but it's a business decision in others."
"Reaching this decision has been challenging and the situation has been tough."
The future plans for Zeelenberg have not been announced yet. Previously a victor in the 250cc Grand Prix, the Dutchman served as the team manager for Jorge Lorenzo and later for Maverick Vinales in the factory Yamaha MotoGP garage. In 2019, he transitioned to the Petronas SRT team, taking on the role of team manager.
