Title: “Alex Marquez Hopes for a Level Playing Field in 2025: ‘I Hope Dall’Igna Takes a Holiday!'” — This title encapsulates Alex Marquez’s humorous yet earnest wish for a more competitive environment next season, highlighting his hope that the Ducati Corse
Alex Marquez: ‘I’m hoping Dall’Igna goes on vacation!’
"…And that their progress slows down a bit so we have a better chance to catch up next year and level the playing field, similar to how it was with the '22 bike."
Understanding that he will ride a year-old Desmosedici for Gresini in 2025, Alex Marquez humorously remarked that he wishes Ducati Corse's general manager, Gigi Dall'Igna, "would take a vacation until the season concludes!"
The reason is that while the GP22 bikes provided to the Gresini and VR46 teams were race winners last year, the performance difference between this season's satellite GP23s and the factory-spec GP24s is significantly larger.
Alex's sibling Marc is presently the leading GP23 competitor in the world championship standings, trailing only GP24 racers Jorge Martin, Francesco Bagnaia, and Enea Bastianini.
Despite being an eight-time world champion, he has not secured a race win this season. However, Marco Bezzecchi and Fabio di Giannantonio achieved victories on the GP22 last year, with Bezzecchi winning three races and di Giannantonio one. Additionally, Alex managed to claim victory in two Sprint races.
The GP23s satellites are reportedly built using the early 2023 factory models. This makes them older versions when compared to the GP22s satellites, which were derived from the machines used at the end of last season.
"This is the first year we've witnessed such a significant transition from the previous Ducati model to the latest one," remarked Alex Marquez following the race at Silverstone on Sunday.
"We're kind of wishing that Dall’Igna takes a break and goes on vacation for the rest of the season!"
“And hopefully they don’t make significant advancements so we can have a more balanced competition next year, similar to last year with the 2022 bike, when Bezzecchi managed to secure victories in three races.”
VR46 racer Bezzecchi, who will be moving to Aprilia next year, is currently in 11th place, trailing Alex Marquez by one position and 31 points in the rankings.
Following a seventh-place result in the British MotoGP, Marquez discussed his performance. Early in the race, he competed closely with the other GP23 riders, including his brother Marc and notably di Giannantonio, who signaled to Alex by tapping the back of his seat, encouraging him to stay close.
Alex explained that after completing 4-5 laps, he encountered a minor problem with the front brake, which started to lose effectiveness. This caused him to fall behind Marc and the leading riders.
"That's why di Giannantonio got ahead of me… I didn't notice his hand signal and attempted to pass him once more!"
"To be frank, we had a strong race overall, but in the final laps, he had an advantage, particularly with the medium front tire. I was struggling a lot in the high-speed turns."
"In my opinion, our performance improved with the harder front, but we required an additional 3 degrees in both track and air temperatures to fully utilize it."
“However, I believe we returned from the holidays performing well.”
Next season, Alex will team up with newcomer Fermin Aldeguer at Gresini, as Marc transitions to the official Ducati squad.
