Thrills and Spills: Brad Binder’s Burnout and Jack Miller’s Battle with Rins at Aragon MotoGP
Brad Binder exclaimed, "I ended up doing a rolling burnout again!" Meanwhile, Jack Miller admitted, "Rins got the better of me." Reflecting on his strategy, Brad Binder mentioned, "I had devised a solid plan the previous night to avoid spinning out at the start…"
Brad Binder achieved his best MotoGP results since the season opener in Qatar, finishing 4th and 6th at the Aragon race weekend.
This happened despite him veering off the track in both races. Nevertheless, his seventh-place finish came from a better position on a grid that was otherwise messy.
Throughout the middle portion of the race, Binder trailed rookie Pedro Acosta. This turned into a contest for third place when Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta stayed slightly beyond grasp.
"I came up with an excellent strategy last night to avoid losing traction at the start, and I executed a rolling burnout just like I did yesterday!" Binder said with a smile.
"I navigated through and overtook several competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors since the front tire was overheating while trailing others until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time while exiting the corners since I couldn't enter them quickly due to the front tire overheating. However, this strategy backfired as the left side of the tire wore out completely by the end."
"I did everything I could to overtake Pedro, but there was no traction left at the back!"
"Aside from that, we made several encouraging advancements this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance, and it appeared to be effective over the course of the race."
Jack Miller, a teammate, had a strong start, moving from 15th place on the grid to eighth by the end of the first lap. However, the Australian quickly faced challenges with rear grip.
Following a last-lap overtaking by Alex Rins, which pushed him down to tenth place, he was subsequently one of three competitors penalized with a 16-second post-race penalty for improper tyre pressure, causing his final position to fall to 15th.
“It was a lengthy race,” Miller commented. “The track conditions varied once more; it’s been dirty throughout most of the weekend, but today it felt more slippery.”
"I gave it my all. It was challenging to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I experienced a significant highside incident coming out of the final corner."
"I found my pace and focused on maintaining it. There were several constraints when transitioning from the outer edge to the center of the tire… but I managed to finish successfully."
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I found it tough to keep up with the guys ahead of me. We'll continue to push forward."
"I'm pleased to have finished in the top ten, but being overtaken by Rins on the final lap's back straight was disappointing. I was making every effort to be precise, but I had a poor acceleration, and he managed to pass me on the back straight."
"We'll return to Misano once more."
Test rider Pol Espargaro will join the KTM team as a wild-card entry, bringing their total number of riders to five for this weekend.
Team manager Francesco Guidotti mentioned that they are now heading to Misano, also focusing on the subsequent test and Pol's wildcard entry, which will provide some assistance for future plans.
The initial Misano MotoGP event will kick off with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, who is currently ranked fifth in the world championship standings.
Miller, who might be officially announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's home races in Italy, is currently in 15th place and just three points behind Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo.
