Thrills and Spills: Binder’s Rolling Burnout and Miller’s Last-Lap Nip by Rins Highlight Aragon Drama
Brad Binder: "I ended up doing a rolling burnout once more!" Jack Miller: "Rins got the better of me."
Brad Binder: "I devised an excellent strategy last night to avoid losing traction at the start…"
Brad Binder had his most successful MotoGP weekend since the start of the season in Qatar, securing 4th and 6th place finishes at the Aragon event.
This occurred in spite of him losing control at the start in both races, although his seventh-place finish came from a more favorable position on a less ideal starting grid.
During the middle portion of the race, Binder trailed rookie Pedro Acosta. This competition turned into a fight for third place when Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia collided with 5 laps remaining.
However, Acosta remained just beyond grasp.
"I came up with a solid strategy last night to avoid losing traction at the start, and I managed to execute another rolling burnout just like I did yesterday!" Binder said with a smile.
"I carefully navigated my way forward and overtook several competitors. It was challenging to avoid errors since the front tire was overheating due to following others, especially until the final part of the race."
"I attempted to gain time when exiting corners since I couldn't approach them too quickly due to the front overheating. However, this strategy backfired, and by the end, the left side of the tire was completely worn out."
“I did everything I could to overtake Pedro, but there was no more room behind him!
"Aside from that, we took several encouraging strides this weekend. We experimented with the bike's balance and it appeared to be effective throughout the race."
Fellow racer Jack Miller had a powerful start, moving up from 15th place on the grid to 8th by the conclusion of the first lap. However, it wasn't long before the Australian encountered issues with rear traction.
After being overtaken by Alex Rins on the final lap and losing his ninth-place position, he, along with two other riders, was penalized with a 16-second post-race penalty for tire pressure violations, which caused him to fall to 15th place.
"It was a lengthy race," Miller remarked. "The track conditions varied once more; it has been dirty for most of the weekend, but today it felt more slippery."
"I gave it my all. It was challenging to manage the [medium] rear tire, and I experienced a significant highside incident coming out of the final turn."
“I found my groove and focused on maintaining it. There were several challenges when transitioning from the outer edge to the center of the tire, but I managed to finish successfully.”
"I didn't make any errors during the race, but I found it challenging to keep up with the guys ahead. We'll continue to work hard and push forward."
"I’m pleased to finish in the top ten, but Rins managed to overtake me on the back straight during the final lap. I was trying my best to be accurate, but I didn’t get a good acceleration and he was able to pass me down the straightaway."
“We’ll return to Misano.”
This weekend, KTM will have five riders participating, including test rider Pol Espargaro who received a wild-card entry.
Team manager Francesco Guidotti stated, "We are heading to Misano not only for the upcoming race but also for the subsequent test and Pol's wildcard, which will benefit us moving forward."
The initial Misano MotoGP race will kick off with Binder trailing Acosta by three points, who is currently in fifth place in the world championship standings.
Miller, who might be formally announced as a Pramac Yamaha rider at the team's Italian races, currently holds the 15th position and trails Monster Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo by three points.
