Thailand Set to Kick Off 2025 MotoGP Season: Buriram to Replace Qatar as Opening Venue and Final Pre-Season Test
Is Thailand Set to Host the 2025 MotoGP Season Opener?
Thailand might take over from Qatar as the location for the final pre-season test and the opening race of the 2025 MotoGP season.
The 2025 MotoGP schedule might see significant changes, with speculations suggesting that Buriram, Thailand, will host both the last pre-season test and the first race of the season.
GPOne.com reports that MotoGP teams are looking to separate the two sets of three consecutive races in the latter part of the current calendar. These back-to-back events currently include the races at Misano, Indonesia, and Japan, followed by those in Australia, Thailand, and Malaysia.
Thailand, which already sees high attendance on Sundays, is likely to experience a significant increase in MotoGP enthusiasm next season as Somkiat Chantra is anticipated to advance to the top tier with LCR Honda.
Qatar typically kicks off the MotoGP season, but in 2023, it ceded this position because of significant track renovations.
There are rumors that the Lusail venue, which declined the opportunity to host a second round instead of India this year, is once again considering construction projects.
GPOne forecasts that Qatar may be scheduled as the third race next year, following the events in Buriram and India. However, Sepang in Malaysia is expected to remain the venue for the initial pre-season test.
