Tesla’s Optimus Robots: Human-Aided Performance at Cybercab Event Sparks Debate Over Market Readiness and Autonomy

At the Cybercab display, Tesla Optimus robots were operated from a distance by people. Despite Elon Musk's excitement, the reliance on human control prompts inquiries about the robot's abilities and its preparedness for the commercial market.

At a recent event aimed at boosting investor interest in upcoming products, Tesla reportedly employed individuals to remotely operate certain features of its Optimus robot prototypes, as per sources close to the situation.

Tesla spokespeople did not promptly reply to inquiries for remarks.

Following the event, several participants claimed on digital platforms that the robots were not operating independently. A video allegedly from the October 10 Cybercab event, showing an Optimus bartender admitting to human assistance, was shared online. However, this detail was not mentioned by CEO Elon Musk during his comments on a live-streamed session.

The involvement of human interaction prompts queries about the bot's abilities and whether it's ready for commercialization. Musk claimed last week that he anticipates this bot to be "the most significant product of any type". The business leader informed the audience that the bot would be capable of performing numerous domestic chores and might ultimately be sold to customers at a price ranging between US$20,000 and US$30,000 each.

"What's its capability?" Musk asked. "It can take on the role of an educator, look after your children, take your dog for a walk, trim your lawn, do the shopping, or simply be your companion, even pour drinks. Anything you can conceive, it can accomplish."
