Tech3’s New Star: Enea Bastianini Set to Shine in MotoGP 2025, Says Herve Poncharal
Herve Poncharal: Enea Bastianini is Tech3's "top choice" for MotoGP 2025
"When everything falls into place for him, he's unstoppable, as evidenced by his recent performances that position him as a strong contender for the championship."
Enea Bastianini will join Herve Poncharal’s Tech3 team in 2025, with Pedro Acosta moving up to the factory KTM team.
Earlier this year, Acosta made a strong debut in the premier class, securing two podium finishes in his first three Grands Prix. However, it is Tech3’s upcoming rider, Bastianini, who has claimed victory this year by winning the British Grand Prix in early August.
"I'm very enthusiastic," Poncharal shared with TNT Sports before the Austrian Grand Prix last Sunday.
"I strongly urged the Pierer Mobility Group leadership to make a swift decision at Mugello. It became evident at that point that Pedro Acosta would join the factory KTM team."
“I aimed to assemble a formidable team, and in my opinion, Enea [Bastianini] was undoubtedly the top choice for us.”
"I know that when conditions are perfect, he is unstoppable. His performance in recent races demonstrates that he is a strong contender for the top position."
These opportunities allow Tech3 to have ambitious aspirations, although they also introduce some level of stress.
"Naturally, we are eager for him to join our team with the #1 plate next season," Poncharal admitted.
"However, even without wishful thinking, we must be truthful: currently, we are under immense pressure to provide him with what he deserves, requires, and anticipates."
“He’s transitioning from the Ducati Desmosedici GP24, which is considered the top-performing technical setup in the lineup, and this is crucial.
"In life, initial impressions are crucial in all aspects. Therefore, our hope is that after completing a few laps in Valencia, he will return to the pit, remove his helmet, and be beaming with joy."
Regarding Acosta's departure, Poncharal was generous with his praise for the two-time World Champion, even though Acosta faced challenges over the weekend in Austria. Poncharal credited Acosta with contributing to the Tech3 team's progress this season.
"Absolutely, he has," Poncharal responded when questioned about whether Acosta has contributed to the team's development.
"There has been a noticeable increase in media interest compared to last year, marking a significant and positive development."
"Moreover, everyone involved in this paddock isn't here just for a paycheck; they're here because they thrive on the adrenaline and are driven by their passion."
The driving force behind our efforts is the outcome, and reflecting on the beginning of the year, it's incredible to see the impact Pedro has had on the team.
"It's crucial to emphasize to the Pierer Mobility Group's management and technical team that they are heading in the right direction, even though there are still areas where they can improve."
"He has significantly contributed to the entire project, far beyond what we anticipated from someone new to the team."
