Singapore GP 2024 F1 Driver Ratings: Norris Shines But Falls Short of Perfect Score
Driver Ratings for the Singapore GP: Lando Norris Just Misses Out on a Perfect Score
Crash.net provides its F1 driver evaluations for the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix.
Lando Norris – 9.5
Norris showcased an impressive display at the Marina Bay Street Circuit, crossing the finish line more than 20 seconds before Verstappen. Nevertheless, three errors during the race stop him from achieving a flawless score.
Max Verstappen – 9.5
Following what many consider his most challenging weekend with Red Bull in Azerbaijan, Verstappen made a strong recovery in Singapore. He extracted the best performance from the RB20, finishing in a secure second place. It was a commendable effort to minimize the impact of previous setbacks.
Oscar Piastri – 6.5
Piastri's performance throughout the weekend was somewhat lackluster. Considering he was equipped with the quickest car in Singapore, ending up in third place and trailing the leader by 40 seconds was a letdown.
George Russell – 7.5
Russell appeared to have an advantage over Hamilton going into the qualifying session, but this did not translate into the race due to grip issues. In the end, he gained from a more advantageous strategy, which enabled him to get ahead of his teammate.
Charles Leclerc – 8
Leclerc's race was hindered by a strategic mistake from Ferrari that deprived him of a pole position in the third qualifying session. During the first half of the race, he struggled with traffic, but he significantly improved once he found open track. His speed was arguably second only to Norris, and he could have contended for a podium finish if qualifying had gone as planned.
Lewis Hamilton – 7.5
Hamilton showed one of his strongest qualifying sessions of the season, earning a third-place start. This was just the fifth instance in 2024 where he outpaced Russell in qualifying. Nonetheless, beginning the race on soft tyres proved challenging, causing Hamilton to fall back to sixth by the finish.
Carlos Sainz – 6.5
Sainz had an accident during Q3, which positioned him 10th for the start of the race. His first lap was messy, prompting an early pit stop to try and get ahead of some midfield competitors. Despite the initial setbacks, he managed a fairly good recovery.
Fernando Alonso – 9
Alonso showcased his classic form this weekend, reaching Q3 and finishing with a strong points haul. An excellent showing.
Nico Hulkenberg – 9
Hulkenberg consistently demonstrates his exceptional skill in qualifying sessions. He concluded a solid weekend by earning a well-earned spot in the points.
Sergio Perez – 6
Following an impressive showing in Azerbaijan, Perez faced a challenging reality check in Singapore. He was eliminated in Q2 and managed to secure only a 10th-place finish in the race. It was a difficult weekend for him.
Franco Colapinto – 8
Colapinto keeps showing his skills. In qualifying, he was just a fraction of a second behind Albon and executed a fantastic maneuver at Turn 1 to enter the top 10 quickly.
Yuki Tsunoda – 7.5
Tsunoda was impressive during the qualifying rounds, successfully reaching Q3. Despite this, VCARB faced difficulties with their speed during the race, and their decision to switch Tsunoda to soft tires midway through the race was debatable.
Esteban Ocon – 7.5
Ocon delivered a smooth performance throughout the weekend in Singapore for Alpine, consistently outperforming his teammate Gasly.
Lance Stroll – 6.5
Stroll struggled significantly compared to his teammate Alonso at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. This track has traditionally posed difficulties for the Canadian driver.
Zhou Guanyu – Rating: 6.5
Zhou continued to face difficulties during the qualifying session in Singapore, trailing Bottas by almost 0.4 seconds. Despite this, he outperformed his teammate during the race, successfully passing Bottas in the early stages.
Valtteri Bottas – 6.5
Bottas got the best performance possible from his Sauber during qualifying, but it still landed him in 19th place. In the race, he fell behind Zhou due to brake problems that arose early in the event.
Pierre Gasly – 6
Gasly experienced a challenging weekend, trailing behind both Sauber drivers in performance.
Daniel Ricciardo – 6
During what might have been his last weekend in Formula 1, Ricciardo faced difficulties. He was eliminated in the first qualifying session because of problems with the soft tires, and his race didn't unfold smoothly. However, he managed to secure the fastest lap, which pleased Verstappen.
Kevin Magnussen – 6
Magnussen trailed Hulkenberg in the qualifying round once more, and his race was compromised due to a puncture caused by a minor collision with the barrier.
Alex Albon – 6.5
Albon had a rough start but made an early pit stop to try and recover positions. Sadly, he had to withdraw from the race because of a possible problem with the power unit.
