Sergio Perez’s Troubles Intensify with Qualifying Crash at Hungarian Grand Prix Amid Red Bull Pressure
Sergio Perez faces a setback with a crash during the Hungarian Grand Prix qualifying round.
Sergio Perez experienced a crash during the initial phase of the qualifying round at the F1 Hungarian Grand Prix.
The driver from Mexico, who is facing growing scrutiny to maintain his position with Red Bull even after securing a new contract, lost control and crashed into the barriers at Turn 7 due to the wet conditions during the first qualifying round at the Hungaroring.
Perez had clocked the ninth-fastest time and appeared poised to advance into Q2 before his accident, a mishap that is bound to increase the scrutiny on him.
The accident resulting in significant harm to Perez's Red Bull vehicle ensures that his starting position for Sunday's Hungarian Grand Prix won't be above 16th.
Amidst speculation, it's been revealed that Perez's contract includes a specific clause tied to his performance. This clause gives Red Bull the option to substitute him should he fall behind his teammate Max Verstappen by over 100 points as they head into the summer break.
Currently, there's a 137-point difference separating the Red Bull drivers, with just two races remaining before we hit August.
Over the last six races, Perez hasn't managed to place above seventh and has only accumulated 15 points during this period.
Commenting on the incident, Martin Brundle spoke to Sky Sports, asking, "Did he enter the turn at an excessive speed? Was he not following the correct path? Did he err in some way? No. He approached the turn correctly, but upon doing so, he found there was no traction available.
Exiting the curb at Turn Seven, it's possible he encountered slightly more moisture on his right-rear tire. Positioned rather high, he made the turn, and that's just how things are going for him currently.
Russell managed to grab it, whereas Perez missed out. This mirrors the event at Silverstone where Verstappen succeeded in grabbing it at Copse Corner, unlike Sergio who failed to do so.
"These are pivotal moments for him and Red Bull. What steps will they take in response? How much longer can they continue to believe 'he'll regain his form'? I genuinely sympathize with him in this situation."
