Sauber has not yet made a decision on who will join Nico Hulkenberg, whom they are acquiring from Haas, as the second driver for their team.
Valtteri Bottas remains optimistic about receiving approval to continue.
During this weekend's F1 United States Grand Prix, Schumacher was seen having a conversation with Mattia Binotto, who holds the positions of Chief Operating Officer and Chief Technical Officer at Audi, within the paddock area.
Binotto informed Sky Germany that no decisions have been made at this point.
Binotto stated that Schumacher is among the potential candidates being considered.
"I am unable to provide further details right now," he stated.
Former Ferrari team boss Binotto is quite familiar with Schumacher. Schumacher spent two seasons racing for Haas, a team that operates with Ferrari engines.
"I believe we have a great relationship," stated Binotto.
"The choice must be made logically, not based on emotions."
The team led by Binotto will compete under the Sauber name in 2025, and then transition to Audi in 2026, coinciding with the introduction of new engine rules.
Audi, a large automotive company from Germany, has already secured a contract with German driver Hulkenberg.
Including Schumacher, who is the son of renowned F1 and German icon Michael Schumacher, would elevate the prominence of their initiative even further.
Current driver Bottas is optimistic about retaining his position.
In an interview with Motorsport Week in Texas, Bottas mentioned, "We're still awaiting the ultimate decisions. I believe it's more appropriate for Mattia to address that question than for me to do so."
"We communicate every week, and I am aware of the conditions I'm expected to meet. Now, I'm simply waiting for approval to proceed."
