Revving Back to Brno: MotoGP Returns to Czech Republic in 2025 After Four-Year Hiatus
Brno returns to the MotoGP schedule in 2025
The Czech Republic will once again host a MotoGP event after a four-year hiatus.
The Czech Republic Grand Prix in Brno is set to rejoin the MotoGP schedule in 2025.
From 1987 to 2020, Brno was the venue for a widely attended grand prix event almost every year, regularly drawing crowds exceeding 200,000 spectators.
Nevertheless, its inclusion in the 2021 schedule was contingent upon a total resurfacing, as demanded by the riders for safety reasons.
However, the circuit’s financial situation was already strained because of the Covid-19 pandemic. With no signs of government funding to bridge the gap, the event was subsequently removed from the MotoGP schedule.
The ownership of the circuit was transferred last year when entrepreneur Karel Hubacek acquired it from the company owned by Karel Abraham Sr.
On Wednesday afternoon, Hubacek held a press conference at the circuit, which was attended by Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala. Dorna’s Carmelo Ezpeleta joined the event through a video call. During the event, it was announced that MotoGP will be returning to Brno for the years 2025 to 2029.
"We're thrilled to share that we're coming back to Brno," Ezpeleta stated. "It's a timeless circuit with an outstanding design that has hosted numerous unforgettable events throughout its extensive MotoGP history."
We are thrilled to be back and host more events, featuring the Tissot Sprint every weekend. Fans will have even more opportunities to experience the action up close and connect with their favorite athletes like never before.
"Numerous times, we've witnessed the hills here filled with enthusiastic supporters of our sport, often making it the most attended Grand Prix of the year. We're thrilled to return MotoGP to our fans in Czechia."
Jan Šťovíček, who serves as the President of the Autoklub of the Czech Republic, emphasized that Hubacek's recent financial contribution is crucial for ensuring MotoGP's return to Brno.
"I always believed that MotoGP would come back to Brno. Over the years, riders, team officials, and people from Dorna and FIM frequently asked me about the situation and when we would return, as everyone has a fondness for Brno."
This became achievable when the circuit got a new owner, who chose to put money into improving this renowned venue.
We extend our gratitude to the Czech Government and Prime Minister Mr. Fiala, the South Moravian Region and Governor Mr. Grolich, the City of Brno and its Mayor Mrs. Vaňková, as well as the event partner Creditas Group!
Prime Minister Petr Fiala stated that the Brno Masaryk Circuit has been hosting motorcycle races since the 1950s.
MotoGP is a renowned international event that attracts a large number of visitors to the Czech Republic, especially to the South Moravia region, with many attendees traveling from other countries.
"I am delighted that we have successfully upheld this tradition and that the MotoGP race is coming back to Brno after a five-year hiatus."
