Single-word Ofsted ratings for public schools have been immediately discontinued, a decision that has been celebrated as a "significant milestone for children."
Before, the academic oversight body gave one of four possible ratings to the schools it reviewed: excellent, satisfactory, needs enhancement, or unsatisfactory.
Starting this academic year, the Department for Education (DfE) has introduced a new grading system that will apply to four specific areas: quality of education, behavior and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.
Beginning in September 2025, school report cards will be launched, offering parents a detailed evaluation of school performance and enhancing the effectiveness of inspections in promoting advancements, the statement explained.
