Remy Gardner Steps Up Again: Borrowing Crutchlow’s Bike for Silverstone MotoGP Wild-Card
Remy Gardner mentioned that Cal was pleased to let him use his bike for the weekend. Gardner expressed his gratitude and well-wishes to Cal, noting that their conversation showed Cal's willingness to help.
Following his substitution for Alex Rins during the German Grand Prix, Remy Gardner is set to ride for Yamaha once more as a wild-card entrant at the Silverstone MotoGP.
The Australian rider, who competed in MotoGP with Tech3 KTM in 2022 before moving to WorldSBK with Yamaha, was summoned by Yamaha at Sachsenring because their test rider, Cal Crutchlow, faced issues following hand surgery.
With the English rider still out of action, Gardner will now step in for the scheduled wild-card entry in the British round, where he previously secured a win during his championship-winning 2021 Moto2 season.
Yamaha announced that Gardner, who secured 19th place in Germany, will be testing various components for the Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP Test Team this weekend.
"I can't wait to get back on the M1," Gardner mentioned. "I want to send my regards to Cal. We talked, and he was glad to let me use his bike for the weekend, which is awesome."
"It is hoped that his hand heals quickly so he can return to his usual fast-paced riding."
"I'll be collaborating with a new technical team this weekend, unlike the one I had during the German GP. We'll need to start fresh and get to know each other, but that's not necessarily a negative thing. I'm excited about the upcoming challenge."
Similar to Monster Yamaha riders Rins and Fabio Quartararo, Gardner will also have a unique 75th-anniversary livery M1 available for him on Sunday.
"Gardner mentioned that this year marks MotoGP's 75th anniversary, making it exciting to see all the unique liveries on Sunday. He expressed his fondness for the Silverstone circuit and his anticipation for the event, noting that riding the M1 at Silverstone should be more enjoyable compared to the Sachsenring."
"We aim to build on our performance at the Sachsenring and provide the team with valuable data, which I believe is crucial."
Crutchlow was supposed to participate in his first wild-card race of the season at Mugello in June, but this was also called off because of issues with his hand.
