Remy Gardner Grateful for Cal Crutchlow’s Generosity, Eyes Progress at Silverstone Wild-Card Appearance
Remy Gardner: "I express my heartfelt good wishes towards Cal. Upon conversing with him, he expressed his willingness to let me use his motorcycle for the weekend, which I find awesome."
Following his role as a substitute for Alex Rins during the German GP, Remy Gardner is set to make another appearance with Yamaha MotoGP, this time as a wild-card entrant at Silverstone.
The Australian rider, who competed in MotoGP for Tech3 KTM during 2022 before moving to WorldSBK with Yamaha, was summoned by Yamaha at Sachsenring because test rider Cal Crutchlow was dealing with complications from hand surgery.
As the English rider remains out of action, Gardner steps in to fill the spot for the planned wild-card entry in the British race, a track where he celebrated a win during his championship-winning Moto2 season in 2021.
Yamaha announced that Gardner, who secured the 19th position in Germany, will be testing various components for the Yamaha Factory Racing MotoGP Test Team this weekend.
Gardner expressed excitement about getting back on the M1. "I conveyed my regards to Cal. After speaking with him, he was more than willing to let me borrow his motorcycle for the weekend, which is awesome," he stated.
We're optimistic that he'll quickly recover full use of his hand and return to his previous form, speeding along as before.
"This weekend, I'll be collaborating with a new technical crew, different from the one at the German GP. We have to build our relationship from the ground up, but I'm actually excited about tackling this new challenge."
Similar to Monster Yamaha racers Rins and Fabio Quartararo, Gardner will also be equipped with a unique 75th-anniversary edition M1 for Sunday's race.
Gardner also mentioned, "This year marks the 75th anniversary of MotoGP, which makes it exciting to witness the unique liveries this Sunday." He expressed a fondness for the Silverstone circuit, eagerly anticipating the race there. He believes that navigating the M1 around Silverstone will offer a more enjoyable experience than at the Sachsenring.
"We aim to build on our performance at the Sachsenring and provide the team with even better data, which I believe is the key priority."
Crutchlow was set to participate in his season's initial wild-card event at Mugello in June, but it was called off because of issues with his hand.
