Reflecting on the Road Less Traveled: Daniel Ricciardo Discusses Career Choices Amidst F1 Future Uncertainty
"Reflecting on the past…" – Amidst doubts about his F1 tenure, Daniel Ricciardo reevaluates his choice to exit Red Bull following the 2018 season.
Daniel Ricciardo candidly acknowledged that his choice to part ways with Red Bull might not have been the best move in his Formula 1 journey.
In a surprising move, Ricciardo startled the Formula 1 community by revealing his exit from Red Bull midway through 2018.
Ricciardo's championship hopes were bolstered after claiming his second victory of the season at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Yet, a contentious encounter with teammate Max Verstappen in Azerbaijan resulted in strained relations within the squad.
Over time, Verstappen gradually emerged as the dominant force, typically outperforming Ricciardo, despite the latter's strong start to the season.
Ricciardo's high-profile move to Renault ultimately failed to deliver substantial results.
In 2019, he didn't make it to the podium, but then he experienced one of his career's peak years amidst the pandemic in 2020.

In an introspective conversation with Sky Sports following what might have been his last Formula 1 appearance at the Singapore Grand Prix the previous weekend, Nico Rosberg was questioned about any regrets he might have.
Ricciardo responded, "I can definitely reflect on it now and acknowledge… At that moment, everything seemed logical in my mind. Was it the greatest choice of my career?
"Certainly, one could contend it wasn't the case. I'm fine with that viewpoint. It's one of those situations. Moreover, there's no assurance that had I remained, I would have achieved greatness or secured various victories."
"It's unpredictable. I can't claim it was the best choice I ever made, but we all make mistakes and grow from them."
"In the end, it led me to rejoin my family. I have no desire to reflect on the past with any sort of regret or resentment."
"I suppose everything occurs for a purpose. It's all fine."
Liam Lawson is set to take over Ricciardo's position at VCARB, starting from the United States Grand Prix moving forward.
