Rebuilding Confidence: Enea Bastianini’s Rollercoaster Journey from Injury to KTM Move in MotoGP 2024
Enea Bastianini faces a challenging 2024 MotoGP season following a 2023 season marred by injury. Speculation about his future has added to the complications from the outset of the new season.
Enea Bastianini will finish his stint with the factory Ducati MotoGP team when this season ends, as the Italian rider is set to join KTM.
The relationship between Bastianini and the factory team has been complicated since he joined last year. His debut season was derailed by a broken shoulder blade sustained in his first race, impacting his prospects for 2024.
In an interview with TNT Sports before the Austrian Grand Prix, Bastianini admitted that 2023 has been mentally challenging.
"I felt devastated, particularly after the second injury. It wasn't just about losing points since I was competing with no real stakes, but it took a significant mental toll on me."
In 2023, Bastianini made a comeback by securing a victory in Malaysia. However, this achievement was insufficient to prevent doubts about his future as he moved into 2024.
“At the start of this year, Bastianini mentioned that he couldn’t see any other options in his mind.”
"It was evident that my goal was to stay in my current position at the Ducati factory. That was my aim and my focus; I didn't consider any other factories or options."
"From the initial race up to Mugello, things have been quite challenging, as it has often been on our minds and I have been asked about it numerous times by various journalists."
"That's how it is, and it's only natural to feel more pressure. However, after Mugello, I understood that I need to broaden my perspective and explore different approaches to figure out what works best for me."
Ultimately, Bastianini opted for the KTM and Tech3 team.
The Italian commented, "In the end, I went with KTM, and I'm very pleased with that decision. It's crucial to stay concentrated on this year, and we'll see what happens next year."
