Raul Fernandez Takes Responsibility for Early Crash with Teammate Miguel Oliveira at British MotoGP
Raul Fernandez admits responsibility for collision with Miguel Oliveira
Raul Fernandez has taken responsibility for the crash involving his team-mate Miguel Oliveira.
The British MotoGP saw both Trackhouse riders eliminated from the race before they could finish the first lap.
Raul Fernandez was the unfortunate rider who fell, causing his RS-GP24 bike to slide into Miguel Oliveira's path.
Heartbroken over causing a crash with his teammate, Fernandez expressed his apologies to the team after the race.
"To begin with, I want to apologize to the team," Fernandez stated. "I had an accident and when I fell, my bike came into contact with Miguel, which led to his crash as well."
"To be truthful, it was pretty challenging since we encountered numerous issues with the soft tires, and when we were on the starting grid, we chose to switch to the hard front tires."
"We realized that it was the correct decision, although I might have made a minor error at the beginning of the race due to the full fuel tank and light rain."
"I had an accident. I didn't make contact with Miguel before the accident. After I crashed, my bike collided with Miguel."
"However, I cannot share much. We collaborated effectively, but I felt a deep sense of personal regret."
"The weekend held significant importance for the team, but my accident resulted in them earning no points."
Fernandez, similar to Aleix Espargaro, chose the hard front tire and confessed that he didn't change his approach compared to earlier laps.
However, the cooler temperatures during Sunday's race, combined with light rain, contributed to Fernandez making a mistake.
Fernandez explained that he followed a similar approach, but the tire was slightly cold, causing him to crash.
"I didn't collide with him," Fernandez explained when questioned about visiting race control. "I crashed, and then my bike made contact with him. It wasn't anyone's fault."
