Quartararo Confident in Yamaha’s Silverstone Updates to Boost M1 Handling in British MotoGP Test
Quartararo states that Yamaha has developed updates to enhance the M1's handling, which will be tested at Silverstone.
Fabio Quartararo has announced that he will be trying out new components during the upcoming British MotoGP this weekend.
Over the past two seasons, the 2021 world champion has been at the forefront of Yamaha's efforts, playing a key role in the Japanese manufacturer's push to quickly regain their competitive edge in MotoGP.
When questioned about any developments made over the summer break, Quartararo responded: "Yes, there have been some. We'll find out over the weekend. They made some changes."
"I consider our options, but it's impossible to predict the outcome until we put everything into action."
"The objective for tomorrow afternoon is to make it into Q2, and failing to do so would indicate that the progress made wasn't sufficient."
Addressing the aspects of the bike that the latest improvements will target, Quartararo mentioned: "The main focus is on the bike's handling. What used to be a strength for us has now turned into a weakness."
"We need to improve in this aspect. Although our engine has gained speed, we're struggling with cornering and braking."
"We have several challenges to overcome. Let's focus on improving our handling to enhance our speed and performance."
"When you search for one thing, you inevitably give up something else. We'll find out if the trade-off is significant, but we are certainly giving up something to achieve improved control."
Yamaha "making significant progress"
Although Yamaha faced a challenging beginning to the season, recent enhancements have been evident.
Quartararo anticipates that this positive momentum will continue in the latter half of the year.
The Frenchman expressed his hopes for the second half of the campaign, stating, "I hope it goes better than the first one."
"We're making great progress. The break has been beneficial, particularly for me and Yamaha to consider various aspects."
"In my opinion, this race could provide us with some insights for improvement, but we'll have to wait and see."
"Whenever you expect things to improve significantly but they don't, I prefer to hold off until tomorrow and see how well we can perform by Friday."
A new engine is set to be ready for Quartararo to test later this year, but the Yamaha rider emphasized that getting it at the manufacturer's home event will still be too late.
"I'm striving to expedite the process," stated Quartararo. "Japan is still quite distant, which is why I am eager to advance and understand the direction we need to take moving forward."
"I want to get it by tomorrow, though it's challenging, but I'm working hard every day to make it happen."
"If it can be held in Misano, Aragon, or any other location, I want it to happen as soon as possible."
Though it is still unconfirmed, Alex Rins is expected to remain with Quartararo on the factory team in 2025.
Quartararo is happy about it, saying, "I believe it's fantastic. Additionally, Alex Rins has performed well this year, and despite our completely different riding styles, his feedback aligns with mine."
"Having two additional bikes next year, along with the upcoming evaluations, will be great. We're making excellent progress."
