Pramac Team Boss Gino Borsoi Reacts to Stewards’ Verdict on Bastianini-Martin Misano Clash
Pramac discloses results of stewards' review following contentious Misano event
Gino Borsoi details stewards' comments on the collision between Jorge Martin and Enea Bastianini
Gino Borsoi, the head of the Pramac team, disclosed that his team had discussions with MotoGP's stewards regarding the contentious final lap of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Enea Bastianini made headlines by executing a dramatic final lap pass on Jorge Martin to take the lead on Sunday at Turn 4.
The official Ducati racer had some distance but brushed against Martin, causing the championship frontrunner to go off the track. Bastianini also ended up going past the kerbs.
Bastianini secured victory in the race with a lead of more than five seconds. The stewards opted not to look into the incident, leaving Martin irritated as he believed the maneuver was excessive.
In their post-race report, the stewards did not address the incident, which further contributed to the unclear reasoning behind their decision to ignore it.
Borsoi disclosed that his team consulted with the stewards, explaining: "We had discussions with race officials. They confirmed that the overtake was within the rules and not excessive. It is what it is. We understand that."
The head of Pramac mentioned that the officials' choice to avoid looking into the event clarified the future boundaries of racing.
“It’s definitely not dramatic,” he remarked.
"At the moment, it is what it is. We're pleased to have secured a podium finish and increased our lead over Pecco, although we're sorry about his crash."
"However, it's not my responsibility to address what occurred on the final lap, as I am not involved in race direction."
"They chose not to penalize Bastianini, and now we are drawing lessons from that decision."
"We are aware of the boundary, and in the future, if you need to perform a similar action on the final lap, it is permissible."
Reactions to the incident were divided among the racers; some believed it was just part of the sport, while others thought Bastianini should have been made to relinquish the position.
Marc Marquez believes that Bastianini going off the track during the overtaking maneuver adds weight to the argument that the Italian should have received a penalty.
