Pramac-Ducati Split: Competitiveness Sparks ‘Cracks’ Leading to Yamaha Alliance
Pramac posed a challenge for Ducati due to their high level of competitiveness. "Their strong performance revealed some vulnerabilities."
It has been suggested that Pramac's strong performance has led to tensions between them and Ducati.
Next season, the satellite team will transition to Yamaha, concluding a 20-year partnership with Ducati.
Yamaha believes that incorporating two more motorcycles into their lineup could help them return to the top of MotoGP.
Yamaha's leader, Massimo Meregalli, described it as both a significant investment and a notable accomplishment.
"The Pramac team is among the top in this paddock. We aim to establish a very solid partnership with them."
"The objective we need to achieve with them is completely distinct from what it was in past years with other independent groups."
"Having four bikes on the starting grid gives us an edge. Up to this point, we've been developing by ourselves."
“We have informed them that there is a significant amount of work ahead! The intention and attitude are excellent.”
Sylvain Guintoli from TNT Sports stated that Pramac holds a high reputation among everyone in the paddock.
"For Yamaha, this is a significant victory and a remarkable accomplishment. They can leverage the Prama framework to improve."
"It seems like Ducati has reached a dead end."
"They grew overly competitive and turned into an issue."
"Toward the conclusion of last year, issues arose when Jorge Martin clashed with Pecco Bagnaia."
"You noticed the fractures emerge due to their excessive competitiveness."
"They've come to the conclusion of their journey and completed their tasks. Now, with all the knowledge they've gained, they embark on a new challenge."
He mentioned, "Even though the separation is friendly, it remains a divorce."
"There will be some criticisms. A relationship like this doesn't end without cause."
"Last year, when Martin was competing with Bagnaia for the championship, we noticed some tension and early signs of conflict."
"Since Martin is unable to ascend, everything has been uncertain."
"The Yamaha initiative is a long-term commitment and holds financial appeal for Pramac. Rumors often have some basis in reality…"
Pramac lost their chance to win the MotoGP championship in the last race of the previous season when Martin was beaten by Bagnaia.
In 2025, Martin is set to move to Aprilia, and if he clinches the championship this season with Pramac, he may carry the #1 with him.
However, after Pramac's switch to Yamaha was announced, they criticized Ducati for losing faith in nurturing young talent.
Ducati's decision to select Marc Marquez for their 2025 factory team has resulted in losing Martin, Marco Bezzecchi, and Pramac.
