Pol Espargaro's KTM showcases notable improvements, yet he experienced a breakdown on Friday
Pol Espargaro experienced an eventful Friday at the Austrian MotoGP.
Competing as a wildcard this weekend, KTM's test rider experimented with some striking new components during practice.
Espargaro secured the third-fastest time during the morning practice, but in the afternoon, his bike malfunctioned, forcing him to stop. Consequently, he ended up with the 21st-fastest time overall.

Espargaro mentioned that the day began positively and they completed numerous laps.
“It seemed that all the preparations were in place for a successful weekend.”
"That's exactly the reason we bring a prototype bike here – to test its limits and find out if anything fails under pressure!"
"It didn't work out as expected. We encountered a minor issue, but it was manageable."
"In the afternoon, we experienced multiple issues. We had to halt both motorcycles. Eventually, both bikes came to a stop."
"There was an issue with the machinery."
Pol Espargaro discusses KTM's latest aerodynamic improvements
KTM introduced numerous enhancements at their home race.
His RC16 featured prominent wings attached to the swingarm.
Additionally, he has installed a new exhaust system.
It hasn't been confirmed if Espargaro has a new engine. As a test and wildcard racer, he is allowed to compete with a different engine specification than the full-time racers, based on this season's updated concession rules.
Espargaro commented on the new aerodynamics, stating, "We noticed a change. That's the reason we introduced it."
"During the test, we were very fast both on individual laps and in maintaining a consistent pace."
"We were going really fast. That's the reason we compete here with this particular bike model, because we believed we had a strong possibility for a successful weekend."
"That's the reason we will aim to perform at our highest level tomorrow to make it into Q2. We had a strong opportunity to reach that point."
"However, everything must proceed as expected without any unexpected events!"
"As a test rider, my job involves testing various items, and things can quickly and easily go awry."
“We hope to have better luck tomorrow.”
Brad Binder was the sole KTM rider to secure a spot in the top 10 during Friday's practice, finishing fifth. Meanwhile, Tech3’s Pedro Acosta experienced a significant crash, marking an otherwise unremarkable day.
“This isn’t the best scenario for tomorrow,” Espargaro responded.
“There are two KTMs and myself who didn't make it past Q2. If we need to compete with anyone, it will likely be them, which isn't ideal. We'll give it our best shot.”
