Pitlane Tensions: Ducati’s Tardozzi Confronts Aprilia Mechanic Over Alleged Scanning Incident
Ducati’s Davide Tardozzi expresses frustration over behavior of Aprilia mechanic
Aprilia mechanic spotted in pitlane inspecting competitors' motorcycles, reports Ducati manager
Ducati's team manager, Davide Tardozzi, has stated that Aprilia was unaware of their mechanic's actions when he scanned one of the VR46 MotoGP bikes in Austria, describing the behavior as "unfair."
Last week, Tardozzi was seen in the pitlane of the Austrian GP, engaging in a heated argument with a mechanic from Aprilia.
It was revealed that the incident occurred when the mechanic was using a tablet computer to scan a VR46 Ducati motorcycle in the Red Bull Ring pit lane.
Tardozzi maintained that there is proof the mechanic tampered with other motorcycles as well. However, he stood up for Aprilia, asserting that the company was unaware of its employee's actions.

"It wasn't solely the VR46 Ducati," he mentioned to Speedweek.
According to reports, this individual inspected the motorcycles at both Yamaha and Pramac. Witnesses also observed and recorded him at the VR46 team area.
"He moved around all the bicycles holding the iPad, sometimes getting as close as 10 centimeters, and right in front of everyone."
"He acted without notifying the higher-ups. Aprilia claims they were completely unaware. Additionally, there is footage of him examining the Yamaha M1."
"One of our team members was following closely. That's why we have footage of his iPad screen. This is how we discovered that he used a program to scan the bikes."
Tardozzi mentioned that he doesn't think Aprilia's technical director Romano Albesiano would have been "foolish enough" to instruct a team member to do this. However, he emphasized that he doesn't want the mechanic to be fired.
"Regardless, Romano Albesiano was completely unaware of the incident," he stated.
"I really hope the person doesn't lose their job. The higher-ups were completely unaware of the situation."
“Romano was equally frustrated. He wouldn't be foolish enough to send someone wearing an Aprilia shirt to conduct scans.
"I have no idea who that person is; I've never encountered him before. It's possible he works in the aerodynamics department. He might have been trying to be smart, but he’s likely just a fool!"
"I informed him that his actions were against the rules. He remained silent and expressionless. As far as I'm concerned, the issue is resolved. Aprilia has issued an apology, but I believe it's unjust."
