Perez Calls for Crucial Red Bull Upgrades After Frustrating Singapore GP Performance
Sergio Perez urges Red Bull to introduce more car improvements following a "complete disaster" to keep up with McLaren.
Sergio Perez expressed dissatisfaction with his Red Bull vehicle's output, ending up in 10th place at the F1 Singapore Grand Prix.
The Mexican driver struggled in qualifying, landing the 13th position on the grid after being eliminated in Q2 on Saturday, and faced difficulties advancing during Sunday's grand prix.
Perez's strong beginning propelled him into the top 10, yet he ultimately secured only one point, as he was unable to advance further up the ranks.
"Regrettably, we couldn't optimize our performance today," Perez shared with Sky Sports F1. "It was disappointing."
"We must shift our focus to the upcoming season's races, as today was an absolute debacle, especially with the balance. I faced significant challenges."
Perez believed that Red Bull delayed his pit stop, hoping to take advantage of a Safety Car situation that ultimately never happened.
"Looking back, it seems we extended our actions too far, which sadly led to our disadvantage," he mentioned.
Perez is of the opinion that Red Bull requires a significant improvement to compete with McLaren, following additional setbacks in both world championships.
Lando Norris' impressive win against Max Verstappen reduced the Dutch driver's lead in the championship to 52 points.
McLaren has established a 41-point advantage over Red Bull in the constructors' championship, with only six races left in the season.
"Perez acknowledged the need for improvement, expressing optimism that the upcoming circuits will be more favorable, and hoping for an enhanced package in the future."
Red Bull's team leader, Christian Horner, stated: “Max delivered a solid performance in today's race, securing second place for us.
Reflecting on our position a few weeks back, it's clear we've made significant strides, and with most of a month ahead of us, we have a prime opportunity to buckle down and advance further before our trip to Austin. Expect many extended work sessions in Milton Keynes.
"As a collective, our aim was to not replicate the previous year's experience in Singapore, and the hard work dedicated to getting ready for this race led to providing the drivers with an improved vehicle and greater assurance in the path of progress.
"Currently, the McLaren sets the standard in the racing scene, and we have some ground to make up, but we possess the team, the skills, and the motivation needed for this challenge. We're not out of the competition yet, and now we've got several weeks to make improvements before the next round."
