Pedro Acosta Slashes Sprint Time, But Ducati’s Dominance Persists in Emilia Romagna

Pedro Acosta is "significantly quicker than last week," but…

Pedro Acosta improves his San Marino Sprint time by reducing it by 6.8 seconds, although the race-winning Ducati also shows similar progress.

Pedro Acosta improved his Sprint time by 6.796 seconds compared to his performance at Misano 1, achieving a speed that would have placed him close behind race winner Jorge Martin just a fortnight ago.

Regrettably for the GASGAS Tech3 MotoGP newcomer, Francesco Bagnaia's winning time in Saturday’s Emilia Romagna Sprint was 6.265 seconds faster than Martin's performance from two weeks prior.

Acosta improved his position by one spot, finishing fifth instead of sixth, and remained the highest-placed rider not on a Ducati. However, he acknowledged that the distance to the leaders is still intimidating.

“It was a pretty great day. Additionally, we were significantly quicker in the Sprint race compared to the previous week, which is something to be pleased about,” Acosta remarked.

"However, we continue to strive because ending up six seconds behind the leader is a significant difference. We need to identify areas for improvement for tomorrow."

Acosta was spotted using the notable swingarm wings that had earlier been featured on Pol Espargaro's prototype bike during a wild-card entry.

Tech3 team manager Nicolas Goyon stated that they incorporated certain aerodynamic features they had experimented with, and some of these ultimately aided in maintaining their speed.

"We met our goal, but Pedro understands that there is potential for improvement, and that's what we will strive for in tomorrow's race."

Brad Binder was the second-fastest KTM rider, trailing Acosta by one position and 1.5 seconds. Acosta's teammate, Augusto Fernandez, ended up in 20th place.
