Pedro Acosta Shaves Nearly 7 Seconds off Sprint Time, Yet Ducati’s Dominance Remains Unchallenged in Emilia Romagna

Pedro Acosta significantly improves his speed from the previous week, yet…

Acosta cuts down his time by 6.8 seconds in the San Marino Sprint, however, the victorious Ducati also makes a comparable advancement.

Pedro Acosta shaved off 6.796 seconds from his Sprint performance relative to Misano 1, achieving a speed that could have matched the pace of the victor, Jorge Martin, merely a fortnight prior.

Sadly for the newcomer from GASGAS Tech3 in MotoGP, Francesco Bagnaia's victory in the Emilia Romagna Sprint on Saturday was by a margin of 6.265 seconds faster than Martin's performance from the previous two weeks.

Acosta managed to secure a slightly better position this time, ending up in fifth place rather than sixth, and once more was the highest-ranked rider not on a Ducati. However, he acknowledged that the distance to the leading positions is still intimidating.

"Overall, it was a pretty good day. We also managed to improve our speed significantly in the Sprint race compared to the previous week, so we definitely have a reason to be pleased," mentioned Acosta.

"However, we continue to strive because ending six seconds behind the leader is a significant [difference]. In light of this, we must identify areas for enhancement for the next day."

Acosta was spotted utilizing the striking swingarm wings, which were initially implemented on the prototype bike of wild-card rider Pol Espargaro.

"Nicolas Goyon, the team manager for Tech3, mentioned that incorporating aerodynamic components they experimented with here played a role in maintaining their speed."

"We met our goal, yet Pedro recognizes there's potential for improvement, and that's our focus for the next race."

Brad Binder followed as the highest-placed KTM rider, trailing just one position and 1.5 seconds behind Acosta, with Acosta's team-mate, Augusto Fernandez, concluding the race in 20th place.

Aggregate times for the Emilia Romagna/San Marino Sprint Race (13 laps):

Francesco Bagnaia led the race with a time of 19 minutes and 50.237 seconds in Emilia Romagna, followed closely by Jorge Martin who clocked in at 19 minutes and 50.522 seconds at the same location. Enea Bastianini secured the third spot with a time of 19 minutes and 51.556 seconds, also in Emilia Romagna. Marc Marquez came in fourth with 19 minutes and 55.623 seconds in the same region, while Jorge Martin also took the fifth place for his performance in San Marino with a time of 19 minutes and 56.502 seconds.

Pedro Acosta was next, finishing in 19 minutes and 56.817 seconds in Emilia Romagna, with Francesco Bagnaia also taking seventh place for his San Marino race, clocking 19 minutes and 57.997 seconds. Franco Morbidelli secured both the eighth and thirteenth spots with times of 19 minutes and 58.334 seconds and 19 minutes and 59.508 seconds respectively in San Marino and Emilia Romagna. Brad Binder, competing in Emilia Romagna, finished ninth with 19 minutes and 58.38 seconds.

The tenth to fortieth positions varied with Enea Bastianini, Fabio Quartararo, Marco Bezzecchi, and others showing competitive times across different locations in Emilia Romagna and San Marino. Notably, Maverick Viñales, Aleix Espargaro, Jack Miller, and others also featured prominently in the race outcomes both in Emilia Romagna and San Marino.

The list concluded with Takaaki Nakagami, Augusto Fernandez, and several others, including Joan Mir, Johann Zarco, and Pol Espargaro, showcasing their times and positions across the two locations. The final spots were occupied by racers like Raul Fernandez, Luca Marini, and Alex Rins, among others, highlighting the depth of competition throughout the race.

*Time penalty of 8 seconds added after the race.
