Pedro Acosta Eyes Home Glory: Can KTM Return to the Podium in Austria?
Pedro Acosta 'excited and highly motivated' for Austria
Will Pedro Acosta be able to secure a podium finish for KTM at the Austrian MotoGP event?
After missing the MotoGP podium in the last three races, newcomer Pedro Acosta is looking forward to racing on KTM's home turf in Austria this weekend, where he hopes for a better performance.
Following an impressive beginning to the season, marked by consecutive podium finishes at the grand prix events in Portimao and COTA, Acosta and KTM have not made it to the podium on Sundays since then.
The young Spanish racer continued to secure podium finishes in Sprint races at Jerez and Mugello, but those successes stopped at Assen, Sachsenring, and Silverstone.
At the British Grand Prix, Acosta expressed his confidence, stating that he remains optimistic about performing well in upcoming races in Austria, Misano, Aragon, Thailand, and Japan.
The Red Bull Ring's stop-and-go layout aligns well with the RC16's capabilities, and KTM benefits from data obtained during recent private tests.
Tech3 team manager Nicolas Goyon stated that Pedro Acosta and Augusto Fernandez will have access to all the information collected by the test team during the Spielberg trials, enabling them to maximize their performance and impress the Austrian fans.
In Silverstone, Pedro secured points once again, and I am confident that his quick learning skills and valuable experience in Austria will enable him to compete at the highest level, especially considering that a Pierer Mobility bike made it to the podium in both the sprint and main race last season.
KTM's Brad Binder finished in second place behind Francesco Bagnaia in both Austrian races last year, while Acosta also secured second place in the Moto2 race.
The #31 rider clinched a win at the track during his first Moto3 grand prix season in 2021.
"Austria has consistently held a unique significance for both the Pierer Mobility team and me," Acosta remarked.
"I am fond of this track and have had strong performances here before. We'll see if we can maintain this success this season."
"I can't wait to hit the track in front of our Austrian supporters and demonstrate that we are getting better with each race, aiming to deliver the best performance possible for them."
"I am in high spirits and extremely driven."
Acosta is set to become a member of the factory KTM team next season, but his current teammate Augusto Fernandez is looking for a new position as Maverick Vinales and Enea Bastianini are joining the team in 2025.
Fernandez has not been completely at ease since transitioning to the 2024 model, which, whether by coincidence or not, involves moving from a steel frame to a carbon fiber chassis.
"Augusto continues to face challenges and is in search of a benchmark race. According to Goyon, the Red Bull Ring's sharp braking zones and turns are better suited to both their bike and Augusto's riding technique, which should undoubtedly aid in improving his speed."
Acosta is competing against Maverick Vinales and his future teammate Brad Binder for fifth place and the highest non-Ducati position in the world championship, while Fernandez is in 17th place at the moment.
