Pedro Acosta Bounces Back: From Austria Nightmare to Aragon Podium
Pedro Acosta expressed his satisfaction at being "competitive" at the Aragon MotoGP, stating, "Considering our recent struggles over the past few weeks, this is a positive turnaround."
Pedro Acosta had a successful Aragon MotoGP, securing two podium finishes and demonstrating his resilience after a challenging weekend.
Acosta experienced his most challenging weekend of the season in Austria, where he ended up in 13th place, but he returned to form by securing podium finishes in both races in Aragon.
Due to the newly resurfaced track in Aragon, Acosta was hesitant to draw significant conclusions from his performance at MotorLand.
"It’s hard to determine," Acosta mentioned during the press conference after the race. "The conditions were unique and there wasn't any point where things were steady. Because of this, it's really challenging to make a clear statement."
“There’s no denying that we’ve made significant progress since the difficulties we faced in Austria. Now, we need to assess our performance as we head to Misano and then again for Misano 2, which will be the first circuit I’ll be racing on for the second time with a MotoGP bike. It’s important for us to gauge our current standing.”
While Acosta isn't making hasty judgments based only on Aragon, he does believe that he has made some progress this weekend.
"After the challenging race we had in Austria, it felt good to return to a competitive form and contend for a better position," he stated. "Although we lacked the early race advantage we experienced yesterday, making it harder to create a lead, managing the rear tire proved more difficult compared to our rivals today."
"Regardless, our main goal was simply to stay in the race and get as close as possible to Pecco Bagnaia and the others. Considering our position in the past few weeks, we should be pleased with this progress; it's a significant improvement."
Returning to an earlier version of the KTM RC16 played a role in Acosta's progress.
“In conclusion, we must recognize that our project is still in its early stages,” he stated. “There are times when we experiment with various approaches, and perhaps I was overthinking. It was a mix of several factors, and occasionally, it’s wiser to pause and reassess before moving forward again.
"We returned to a bike that I am familiar with. While it might not be the quickest, it offers better consistency. We need to continue in this direction, as it seems to be an effective strategy for regaining our competitiveness."
