Pedro Acosta and Brad Binder on the Hunt for Performance: Embracing Practical Solutions Over Theoretical Expertise at KTM
Pedro Acosta: 'At times, what's necessary isn't individuals with university education…'
"Occasionally, what we really need are those who have the practical skills to effect change, perhaps."
MotoGP newcomer Pedro Acosta started his summer vacation by visiting the KTM headquarters in Munderfing, Austria, where he met with leading engineers and executives involved in the RC16 initiative.
Acosta entered the break as the top rider for KTM and had confirmed his move up from the Tech3 team to the main factory team for the upcoming season.
Following two top-three finishes in the first three races, Acosta has failed to make it to the podium in the last six events. As a result, he has fallen behind the top four Ducati riders and Maverick Vinales on the Aprilia.
"Acosta found the factory tour positive on the eve of the British MotoGP this weekend," he commented. "A lot is set to transform. Numerous aspects are about to diverge in different directions.
"Perhaps it will take us a race or two to fully grasp [everything], but… I notice a lot of alterations and progress. Because of this, I'm pleased."
Despite hesitating to provide a concrete instance of the upcoming changes, Acosta mentioned the strategy of reassigning key individuals from the project's early stages to address current challenges.
He further stated, "Expressing this in English is challenging for me, but occasionally, we don't require individuals who have attended universities and are knowledgeable about mathematics."
"Occasionally, there's a need for individuals who possess the practical skills to [get things done], potentially."
Acosta seemed to concur that, despite an initially hopeful beginning to the season, the project had veered off course.
"Perhaps during challenging times, it's important to pause and take a step back. Persisting on a wrong path can lead to a point where we'll wish we had turned around sooner."
"However, we're currently uncertain about our destination… Given the challenging times we're facing, it's advisable to halt, retreat slightly, and reconsider our path."
However, the youthful Spanish racer emphasized that there are no problems with the team members in the pit area.
"I'm unable to express desires like 'I want to do this, I want to do that' since currently… my experience in the class is quite limited…
"However, it's not concerning those surrounding [me]. I must emphasize, as I have been mentioning since the season's start, that I am surrounded by the finest individuals Pierer Mobility could provide me with."
"I have nothing negative to express regarding the individuals."
Binder stated, "We're essentially looking for better outcomes…"
Brad Binder, who will soon be Acosta's teammate, is looking forward to a new beginning after falling to seventh in the rankings by the time the summer break began.
"Definitely, the initial six months have been challenging. However, this moment presents an excellent opportunity for us to enhance our efforts and strive to achieve our goal," Binder remarked.
It's undeniable that the initial part proved tougher than anticipated. My expectations were higher, yet I believe it's crucial to acknowledge the current situation and our level of play.
Frankly, I believe we haven't truly progressed. It appears we're much the same as we were last year, while it seems everyone else has advanced somewhat.
“There isn’t anything significantly amiss. The issue is that we require improved efficiency.”
